Well, if Sport Compact racing dies, like it looks like it is going to, at least the RWD guys might have a place to go... Copied this from their site.. IHRA CONSIDERING ALLOWING SPORT COMPACTS IN PRO STOCK
The International Hot Rod Association is giving serious thought to making Sport Compact style cars legal for Pro Stock competition. At the upcoming event at Rockingham Summit Racing Equipment team racer Matt Hartford (shown) will be making laps I in his "Sport Compact" style Chevy Cobalt.
A call to Skooter Peaco at IHRA confirmed that the sanctioning body is seriously looking at the idea, but has made absolutely no decisions, tentative rules or anything else concerning the potential adding of turbocharged, fuel injected, 4 and 6 cylinder powered Sport Compacts to IHRA's traditional mountain-motored Pro Stock class. That scream you hear is coming from engine builders Jon Kaase and Sonny Leonard, who currently built most of the IHRA mountain motored cars. [9-30-2005]

I think it should be left to all motor cars. People compare them to pro stock because they run close times but consider they are doing it all motor and sport compacts are using on two less cly but over 40lbs of boost. It won't be long before the compacts are running faster than pro stock then no more close drivers races we always watch in pro stock.

i guess then the scrantons and paisley can bring their v-8's back. The Blast Lexus will also have a place to run as well. I think they can make some good power all motor.....it would be interesting to see. IM glad IHRA is atleast thinking about it..
You can run faster all you want ONCE, but you have to consistently go down the track! Take a look at the fields in IHRA Pro Stock. 20+ cars plus 1-16 are within hundredths. Many times eliminations are decided at the line, ProRWD can be won at the pits. I love what our ProRWD can do, but they aren't always the most consistent. You need to first finish, before you can finish first, or whatever that saying goes.
In the last couple of years, the only IHRA anything I've seen was from very bad TV coverage of races in Canada.
Didn't even know they still raced in the states.

Too funny I know what your talking about, they IHRA event at Toronto Motorsports park is off the hook though, huge fan attendance and a top notch track and surface!! Alot of the IHRA guys love running the track as they get Personal bests all the time.

So True, Half these guys can't back up their runs, we have to be realistic to be in any profesional series you have to be "consistent" and no Import class is. Mountain Motors run 6.40, who in Pro RWD has run this number once, yet can do it all day long, if they let Pro RWD in IHRA I don't see anyone qualifieng. Right off the top you can take Carlos Mantano, and Jose LeDuc out, cuz they aren't ever going to run that fast. Until Manny gets teh Cougar running again, that Nissan is just something to practice reaction times in. Now some of the Titan Cars have been in the .40's I think, and I'm sure someone can verify this, and possibly a couple of other cars. To begin with, they might have to give a small weight break to the sport compacts to make them competitive. I think in time, this could actually help the class, because more people will see how easy it is to go fast, and how much less it cost than a Mountain Motor. This alone could lead to company's coming out with aftermarket heads and blocks for the 2JZ, and then just imagine where it will go. I personally hope, they give it a shot. Just give them a small weight break is all they will need to get in the show..

John Bartunek is a nitrous car, we did his motors when I worked at Musi's..and Tony Gillig has a supercharged mustang..so I they already allowing power adder cars? The addition of sportcompact pro cars or should I say the blending of domestic and import would in my opinion only be good for our sport as it will gain some much needed respect and support that we need from the domestic side of the sport.
i guess we saw a practice run of sorts of this at the beginning of the year at the bradenton us street nationals
personett, hartford, and scranton all qualified for outlaw street
i wonder if this is in response to the possibility of NHRA slowly integrating the prorwd cars into a limited class in the poweraide series, much like the pro mods(heard they may have as many as 20 races with NHRA next year)
maybe nhra has 20 races for prorwd cars, 10 as part of the Xplod series, and 10 standalone as part of the Poweraide Series

Look at the consistency gained this year v. last year as well as the times we have been seeing. What you also have to take into consideration is track preperation is much different at events such as Powerade and IHRA events, getting a car to go down the track quicker and more consistent on a track like this is easier. As for 6.40's Personett can do it, the car went a .44 on it's first test session making moves down the track before being turned down to "go rounds". As a matter of fact all 3 of the Titan cars have dipped into the 40's, given another year I think you could see some good compeition with the mountain motor cars, NHRA ProStock however would need to make some changes as recently the fastest qualifying ProRWD cars usually qualify a few tenths quicker on the same/track/ weekend. I personally wouldn't mind seeing them going to EFI. The sport is progressing and that's always a good thing.
