Default H22a HUGE power loss... WHY>?

a few weeks ago i swapped the h23 out of my 95 lude and put in an H22a, everything seems to work fine except for it feels like it lags so much more then the h23. this motor seems to have no torque, no pull, no power. the only thing that saves me if i were to race is the high RPMs it can go up to. also my knock sensor tends to go off when im cruisng faster then 47 mph for more then 20 seconds. its real weird. it wont go off if i stay 45 or below. but the horrible problem i keep gettin is this retarded exeleration to where like a 95 grand am gets me. Keep in mind that happens when the check engine light is OFF, when its on the car turns into molasis. could this be a vacuum hose, a ground? i have no idea where to start. i did the motor myself from start to finish but i am clueless so far. let me know what you think

The H22 doens't make the power until vtec son........the h23 is different........makes the torque sooner.

But it does sound like you have a problem.
I say you're on track - checking your grounds and sensors.

Compression was perfect was 190 or somthign like that. somthing high.
but when i say no low end torque its like as if the car where a weed wacker and the choke was on cuz u just started it. it lags like that

something is definitely wrong... stock for stock the h22 will eat up your old h23 and every 95 grand am..... I'm not sure what could be wrong but rest assured that your motor isnt slow... it is more than likely a ground or something.. an easy fix

Does it lag and then pull like a bitch in the top? Is this the typical H22 hesitation question? Could be timing that was the problem with mine that had a similar problem. Was this origionally an obd2 motor?

check:

ignition timing
vacuum line (esp to map sensor)

are you using premium gas???? i see no reason why your obd1 knock sensor would be going off....

oh and please never paint a prelude chameleon colors.....and never put r33 taillights on it either....

preserve preludes.....

yeah its really crappy off the line till about 3500 rpm in then i pull like crazy... see if i roll in first gear and take off from 3500 im gettin massive pull.. its just from a dead stop it sucks, and this motor was a 0bd1 when it was the h23, and actually im not sure if the newer one is obd1 or 2.

lots of ongoing troubleshooting regarding the sub 3000 bogg...

some existing threads reside here

and more recently...

my issue ended up being timing - and I changed quite a few components in the process. - if you are throwing a KS code - there is a chance the KS is pulling your timing - causing your issue.

best of luck.
