oops. cut wires to aftermarket tach in car with the car on and running. help..
i was taking the aftermarket tachometer out of my car and i cut all the wires going into the tach right by the tach. the car was still running and as soon as i cut the wires, the car shut off.. it was getting power through 12 volts, ground to a bolt in my car and the signal for the tach was directly piggybacked into the distributor.. what could be the problem as to why my car will not start? there is a check engine light on but i have not ran to see what code it is. im thinking the distributor or ignitor inn the distributor could be bad. ANYONE who has experience with this PLEASEEEEEEE help! thank you.
Its is possible the dizzy or ignitor went bad, but cutting the wire shouldnt have caused that. I have taken two big tachs out of cars and have never had a problem with them not running after. Did the wire you cut ground out or start sparking at all? It might have zapped something
i think that when you cut the wires... you CUT ALL OF THEM IN ONE SINGLE SPLICE. this would surely cause the volt from the power line to surge to your tach feed line. maybe your ignitor or coil got burnt up in the process.
**just check the see if you get spark. then go on from there.

thanks guys for the advice, this is what i was figuring yeah.. i havent checked for spark yet but that is what i thikn the problem is. the car turns over but the check engine light is on and it doesnt start. yeah, i cut them all at once which probably grounded out the dizzy or ruined the ignitor. ill keep you posted. anymore advice or comments is much appreciated.
