75k miles on the dot and ITR tranny gives out (main shaft)
Well im still under extended warranty. Thats the good news but the main drive shaft was going in the tranny and I could hear a strange wine/grind sound when accelerating. I wonder how many other people have had this issue. I still have the original clutch but the drive shaft gives out?!?
Now im being told they are deciding if its going to rebuilt or just get a brand new one. If anybody else has ever gone through this I would like to know if there is any way I can argue in getting a new tranny opposed to just mixing together old parts and new parts in a device as complicated as a transmission. Any input on the topic is greatly appreciated.
Just keeping the crew up to date. Im not around as much because of work but im still Rollin deep with the ITR every day.

ahhh see thats the type of information i like, becuase if they tell me thats what they are replacing I have a little more confidence in the life of the drivetrain. thank you for the info, i didnt know there were any common issues with itr transmissions.
Plenty of common issues with the R's tranny. Syncros & or Bearings fail, Not saying that either one is driver error or not, those are parts that give.

More than likely they will opt to replace the trans due to the huge labor expence of rebuilding the unit.

if u have ever seen a b series tranny apart you would/will know they are far from complicated and quite easy to rebuild given you have access to new parts...
damn jeff that sucks bro, hope you get it resolved and get what you want
, i'm at 60k so hopefully i still have some time lol

75K, that's nothing, My '81 Shelby Charger's tranny used to give out every 17,500 miles like clockwork. 17500, 35000, 52500, within 200 miles each time 'till I got rid of it.

2 hrs = huge expense?

I work for an Acura dealer and have rebuilt 4 R trannys due to bearing and synchro failures. 99% chance they will rebuild because R trannys are on national backorder and have been for quite some time. The warranty time for overhauling an integra manual trans only pays 5.8hrs and an additional 1.5 if you have to overhaul the diff. Whenever I rebuilt them is was mostly the diffe bearings that made the most noise. It sounds like a roar over 30mph or so. Usually I replaced the main bearing also and once a synchro set due to a grinding gear.

I'm curious if you've had any ITRs come in with a noise that occurs under these conditions for example:
From a stop, start off accelerating and turning left, a kind of roaring sound for lack of a better term coming from the drivetrain that goes away once into the turn and getting up to speed.
- The noise does not occur when accelerating from a stop in a straight line.
- The noise does not occur if I turn the steering wheel while stopped.
I don't believe the noise occurs while steering under acceleration at higher speeds, but it's hard to say for certain with cabin noise at those speeds.
The car is bone stock with 38k miles on all original drivetrain components, tranny never opened, car not ragged on, no clutch issues, no synchro issues, and drives smoothly in all conditions. I make mostly short trips but I think the noise begins to disappear the longer I drive - the more turns from a stop I make.
Any thoughts? Thanks
