"anything is better than nothing". you're going to hear that over and over again from different people because it's true.

as far as the helmet goes: the first step is to check that it's DOT and SNELL approved. then you're going to check for fit and comfort. then you're going to check for ventilation. after then, you will consider styling and other cosmetic whatnots. follow that order and you can't go wrong.

jacket: same as helmet except for the DOT and SNELL part, but see that it has adequate armor and padding. there are different grades of materials, so be wary of that.

What kind of helmet is that? Ive learned that buying a little more expensive of a helmet will save you money over the long run. The nicer helmets are so much more comfortable and alot lighter. I have a friend in dubuque with a suomy for sale if your interested.

Put on an Arai or Shoei (whichever fits your head) after wearing the thing and you'll never look at a cheap helmet again, unless you don't care about comfort...those cheap helmets fit like a broken condom...

The most important aspect is fitment. Everything will be snug at first, especially leather. Give it some time to mold to your body; you don't want it loose in the beginning.

Yes, I can. Life insurance. (although I don't think it covers me in a motorcycle accident...)

I have this jacket and I am very pleased with it. I tried to sell it a while ago but I just didn't want to part with it. It can really do anything you ask of it - a true 12-month sporting jacket. I love mine - you should buy Hybridcrx's.

Are Shift jackets any good? I'm thinking about getting the Shift Super Street leather jacket. Currently I have a Hein Gericke flow-through with zip out liner but I need a leather and can't find many that I like. I want one in a black/grey/white color scheme.

intresting, when did shift start making road gear? they have been in off-road gear for quite a while. i have owned many of their off-road items and they have worked pretty well. not to mention having different styling that is off the beaten path of others i.e. alpinestars, joe rocket, (insert any other mass produced brand here)
