Default would like a opionion on a 96-97 cbr 600 f3

there is a guy in town that recently dumped his bike and messed up some of the plastics. he has it for sale for $1700. It has roughly 20,000 miles on it and the plastics would need to be painted(no big deal friend paints ) I am very new to the motorcycle scene, i drive a swaped civic and know basically nothing when it comes to a Honda CBR 600 f3. I would like to know how reliable they are at this milage, if that milage is really high for a bike and what not. thanks for all of your info you give me.

great starter bikes. find out what number owner he is, maintenance records and title. If maintained well, hondas will last a really long time. Before you buy, make him take the bike to a shop to confirm that the damages are only cosmetic.
My suggestion is to take a MSF course first. $1700 is a deal. Buy and don't ride until you take the class.

How was the bike dropped? Check if the wheels are bent. Same for the forks and frame.

20K is nothing for a modern engine. As long as it hasnt been canned to death from cold and has had some oil changes all will be well. The 97 i think had the shorter shock which can be replaced with the 98 setup for a better rear end if you want. As long as you fully understand the scope of any damge I would say its a winner.

An R6 will eat a 96-97 CBR, there is no comparicon, but then you are not paying $7000 out for an R6. Wouldn't worry about it.
