Questions about ls/vtec
i am planning on doing a ls.vtec with my '96 ls and had a few questions. if i used a '93 vtec head would i have to go to obd1 or could i stay with obd2? and what year ecu would i need? also could i do it myself or do i need to let a shop do it. thanks for the help.
for your first question you dont have to go obd1 you can stay obd2 if ud like everything is pretty much plug and play on the conectors except for the injectors you can use your ls injectors or you can get some obd 1 injector clips and modify your obd2 harness for your obd1 injectors(that is if you have them) if you decide to go obd 1 i would suggest a p28 ecu chipped or hondata less hassel with the p28 u could run a p30 ecu but then you have to worry bout a knock sensor. You could do the job yourself if your a confident mechanic , im assumeing that you know whats involved when your doing this hybrid as far as drilling ,tapping, plugging, head bolts to use etc etc..... dont worry bout the oil pump as obd2 blocks come standard with vtec oil pumps on them. Since your working on your motor ud might as well put a new timing belt/water pump on that bad boy, and since you got the head off ud might as well pull the pan off and put new rod bearings and piston rings on it also, but if all this sounds like to much then have a good shop do your work.
