Default Review of Azensi as a rain tire

Tire=> Falken Azensis 195/60/14
Car=> 1990 Mazda Miata
Condition=> Rain with puddles approx. 40-45 deg F.

Tires were very predictable. In a straight line didn't feel any hydro-planning. I took a slow turn and got on the throttle. The back came out very predictably. Let off throttle, car straighten. Very smooth no surprises. Semi-hard acceleration - tires didn't spin too much (well it is a stock Miata, so not much spinning anyway !)

I would use these as a rain race tire. Maybe not as good as the A032R, but I think I get 3/4 the performance of the A032R at half the price. So that is a plus in my book.

In the dry, these are not race tires. These tires are better for amateurs than race tires. They are very predictable and slide at the same rate throughout the turn. Race tires grip and then all of a sudden lose grip. Azensis are not as fast as race tires but are close.

I would buy the Falken Azensis over the Kumho 712's (I have the 712's on my ITR).

I will do the freeway driving this morning. The roads are still wet. I didn't do high speed driving last night, because I didn't know how the tires would react to the wet. Stay tuned. I'll post my thoughts later tonight.

But wouldn't that mean that 1/4 of the competitors will be in front of you then?! I think that most race drivers would prefer an R compound on the track.

Just my 2c worth.
