vtec solenoid leaking
i have been losing oil and have come to the conclusion that my vtec solenoid is leaking, where it connects to the head. there is oil on the side of the head right underneath the solenoid and i clean it off all the time, and whenever i open the hood i can see a burned stream of oil going down. is there some kind of seal from acura that i can get and replace to stop this? also, has anyone ever had this happen to them?
alright, that still doesn't look like that circle rubber piece on the outside of the head. it's like circle, that gasket doesn't look like whats on the outside of the car, but i guess i could go get one and see if it helps.
Do yourself a favor!! Change both #8 AND #12. It doesn't cost that much and the install will take you 30~45 minutes while chugging on refreshments and dreaming about upgrades for your sweetheart!

Yep, and be sure to get the redesigned version of the #8 cam seal. The old style was a rubber plug. The newer style is plastic w/ 2 o-rings. I replaced mine with the new style plug, and nearly 100K miles later still no leaks.

#10 is just the screen. #12 is the screen and gasket together.
When I ordered my cam plug, I told them I wanted to the newer version. They probably don't even have the older one anymore, but better check to make sure when you order it.

well i'm just getting the part number off acuraparts247.com, then going to a honda dealer on the way home. i still have to call them and see if they have it first. i guess i will find out when i get there if it's the new one or not.
Ok, i just found a dealer with it. i was thinking though. do i have to take the valve cover off in order to install the cam seal? or can i do it from the outside when i take the solenoid off to replace the #12 part? anyone know?

valve cover must come off, c-speedracing.com has a how-to.
Why don't you just order everything you need online? It's not like you absolutely must get this done today, is it?

no, but why pay like $10 in shipping and handling when i can just get it from the dealer. the price is only a few $ off from the dealer and online. most places have 4.95 handling and 4.95 shipping so it isn't worth it. i only order online if it's an expensive part.
alright, so i went there, and part #8 isn't a cam seal, it's like the plug that would go on the head if the solenoid wasn't there. and they said they had part #12 but they couldn't find it. so i guess i have to go to a different dealer.
When I bought my VTEC solenoid gasket (#12) it came with the screen (#10). Get the screen too!
If you notice, #12 points to both the screen and gasket. #10 is the screen only.

All B-series engines have a cam end seal at the end of the exhaust camshaft, both VTEC and non-VTEC engines.
You can see mine here, the black circle right behind the gold-colored bolt near the bottom middle of the pic (and yes that is a VTEC solenoid in front of it
