Default What is wrong with my car

ok so heres the details: it is a 1992 Prelude Si with the H23A1. i have a Injen air intake and exaust. thats all i have dont to it. now recently i have been driving it and sometimes from a stop but mostly when i am accelerating my tachometer will start to jump at about 4k rpm and it will randomly jump from 4 to past 8k but thats not the bit problem. the problem is that when my tach starts to jump around my car will spudder like its not getting gas and i will lose all power im my motor. then suddinly it will come back. my car also makes a odd sound when it starts to do this. it almost sounds like a hole in my exaust with a bunch of lose bolts rattling around inside.. i thought it may be the fuel filter so i replaced it but got nowhere. now now i have read on prelude power that the tach jumping may be caused by a bad ground to say a stereo/alarm or something else but that doesnt explain my power loss. and the shitty part is that i am getting no check engine/battery/oil nothing not a single light. i just want my car to stop doing this. any ideas?

thank you
Randall

Sounds like a grounding issue, I would check the main ground wires coming off the battery attaching to the transmission. I had to replace mine a couple years back, because of corrosion. Damn salt......

Sounds like what happened when the ignitor inside the distrtibutor took a crap on me. But it only happened for about 5 min and then it died.
If its been happening for a while then i agree, check and double check all your grounds.

I agree on the ignitor. It sounds like iginition cutting in and out. I hate intermittent problems since they are so hard to diagnose. You might have to just start picking inexpensive parts and replacing them one by one till it's fixed. Could be coil or ignitor, grounds, etc

it definitely sounds like its from somewhere in the dizzy. Igniter, coil, even bearing failure is possible.

get a new distributor if you're balling, or just a new ignitor if you're on a budget
