Default GAH! Piston rings!

It seems that all of a sudden my poor little ZC is burning the hell out of some oil. Everything is pointing at bad rings. The funny part is, is it JUST started doing it within the past two weeks. Hell, I've burned a quart since Saturday.

It doesn't appear to be leaking oil at all... there are no spots when I move my car after being parked awhile.

And I need to get this fixed. Not only is it annoying to be burning oil, it's a little embarassing to have that huge cloud of smoke coming out of the car at takeoff and at each shift.

What piston ring set is the best for use on stock pistons?

Also, I know I need the oil pan gasket, the valve cover gasket, and intake manifold gasket, cam seals and a rear main (just to do it) and I'm going to change the timing belt while I'm at it. What else do I need?

Thanks for all help.

get head gasket, water pump, and new head bolts or studs.

check to see if coolant and oil are intermixing. Im guessing headgasket.

No, that's not happening at all... coolant is fine and oil is just turning black, not milky. Cars is even running cooler than usual.

At least I HOPE not.

just unusual (i think) for it to all of a sudden go through oil like crazy and not be leaking on the exterior.

Wow, I'm doing basically the exact same thing to me CRX within the month. Mine, however, is both burning and leaking oil. I think it's leaking due to a crappy seal near the timing belt. The previous owner changed the belt, and did a shitty job of it, there's oil all around it.

A friend of my parents is doing it, without cost of labour, so I'm happy.

have you done a compression test on the cyllinders? That will tell you if you have problems with the rings. I just fried my #1 piston rings, compression was at 75 on that cyllinder. Bad bad bad....

hey man, i used napa rings and got a 190 all across on a b2.... but i didnt keep the car long so i can't really say how many miles they'll go (if over 100,000). hey the bright side of things... you'll have almost a new motor to break in and while your stripping your block, completely clean the living crap out of it!!! dont put your head / block back on dirty...

:: the edited ::

almost forgot... while your stripping, head to your junk yard and grab extra valves / swap which ones are slightly wraped in your head (then you can also consider yourself to have a set of newer un wraped valves)... every head i've stripped with over 100,000 had at least 1 to 5 wraped valves...

an often over looked cause for an oil leak is the cam seals.
located "near" the timing belt. look for oil deposits there.

and if you have lost one or more piston rings you could be burning "alot" of oil

becareful because oil in the cumbustion chamber will greatly increase your cylinder compression and compound the problem.
