question about my tranny
ok..well i think my clutch is going out...my car is a 91 hatch 4 speed manual. and my friends 89 crx hf just crashed it..but can i put his 89 tranny(5 speed) into my car and his clutch also. and will the shift linkage work to?? will i have any problems doing it. also my motor is a dx motor. thanks
why would you want to hf tranny into your civc. the hf tranny is for a good gas savor, but your dx tranny is better than the hf. the dx tranny has the same gear ratio as the si except you dont have a 5spd. so i suggest you stic with your dx tranny instead. Or you can trade that hf tranny at your local junk yard for a si 1. that would be much better.
It doesn't sound like he has a DX tranny but rather a STD tranny. The DX tranny is a 5 speed while the STD is a 4 speed. The STD is identical to the HF minus the fifth gear. The DX does have the same gearing as the Si, however, the Si has a shorter final drive.
wronghand..you are right i do have the std hatch. so..well my cluth is going out right now...and i dont want to pay money for new one...so since my friends hf was wreaked...im just gonna throw in his tranny into my car. wouldnt that be better then buying a new clutch..cause shouldnt i be just alittle faster then? thanks
I think that the HF and STD are geared the same. The only difference being that the HF adds a 5th gear. So there will not be any difference other than the extra gear. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
either way, the clutch and pressure plate are not in the tranny. The clutch sits between the pressure plate and the flywheel, and the pressure plate bolts to the flywheel.
So if you just swap the trannys, you will still have the same clutch in there. So you are gonna have to pull the tranny off the HF and then unbolt the pressure plate from the flywheel which is attached to the engine (crank).
wether or not the pressure plate has the same bolt pattern as yours, I do not know.
peace
