Busted Transmission -What can I do???
Well I just got word--my 98 Honda Accord V6 transmission is shot. I bought this car in January of '04 and I am haveing to replace the transmission. I still owe money on the damn thing - a lot of money. Mechanic says it will be $2500-3000 to repair. I feel like this is too expensive and plus I cannot afford it. I am a fresh out of college starving individual and I have no means to drop $3k on a new tranmission. Does this sound high? What are my options at this point? What would this car be worth with a bad transmission? It has leather, sunroof, CD player, etc.
Thanks in advance.

There is no direct replacement manual tranny for his car. Honda only made the 6th gen V6s in auto. The only successful manual swap is the CL-S and that usually runs in the upper $5k - $6k range.
Your best bet is to find a used 6th gen V6 tranny and pay someone to put the used one in for you (or do it yourself). Then when you have some money stashed away, build the other tranny to better than OEM specs.

I don't know about getting a used one. Unless you know its real condition. Only reason is that there are so many of these trannies that go kaaput, I imagine they find their way on to ebay. You might want to take it to an independent shop to see what it might cost you there. Along with a warranty it maybe cheaper than the dealer still..
Good Luck..

I just replaced mine about a month ago. I went to a company called Certified Transmission, and got a rebuild for right around $2000. That came with a 2 year warranty, even though I have the Comptech S/C. So definitely check around, because Honda will not give you a warranty if you have ANY mods done to your car.
