No resonator. Anyways it should sound like stock until you hit vtec and at WOT.

Default Some ****

I helped my brother install his AEM CAI on his 2000 Civic EX. What a difference in sound over his stock intake! Very nice!

I was told (from people on this board) that a GS-R will not sound the same due to the intake manifold and throttle body. Thus, I never got one.

Yeah...isn't it great?

Personally, I love that sound when you stomp on it. I've had my CAI since last summer and I'm not even close to being sick of it...I don't think I ever will. I have an RS, so it's probably not as loud as a GS-R or Type R.

But yes, it's supposed to be that way 'cos you yanked the resonator (the big white plastic box) when you installed the CAI.

though it seems like a very small difference, your engine is bigger than the gsr... that is why, for the most part, it is louder... or at least that's what i've heard. when i had a b18b my aem cai roared over gsr's and si's. imo, the b18a/b has the best sounding intake tone witht he aem cai.

Mine. See, the intake is OK 'cos it's only loud when you get on it...normal driving isn't very different from stock. If it were loud all the time, then the answer =

i've a blitz filter on the stock piping and its as loud as hell, my friend who has the same car as me (SiVTEC) also has a blitz filter on his stock piping and its not even remotely as loud, we cant figure out why the same filter on two cars is completely different sounding, maybe the fact that i have a full exhaust system and he doesnt has something to do with it?????????

Default AEM CAI

Does anyone have a sound file of a stock GS-R with just an AEM CAI?

i've got a gsr with the standard intake(using a k&n filter). i've removed all the baffle boxes and installed a tube from the front bumber to the bottom of the intake box. i leave the top off all the time(except when it gets really hot)and when vtec kicks to the secondaries at WOT, it sounds like my car is pushin some g's. but an aem cold air intake should sound just as loud if not louder because of the sound resonating through the aluminum pipe vs a molded rubber factory hose.

The reason why the LS's (and GS's and Type R's for that matter) are louder is probably because of the GSR's two stage intake manifold. Since the GSR has the smaller but longer primary intake runners to boost torque it doesn't sound so loud just cruisin'. But, once the secondaries open up the thing screams. That is the only mod I had to my GSR and it made a LOT more noise after 5750. All the other cars have the larger primary runners which is why they are loud all the time. Just my opinion on that one. Anyone agree?

Dude, you don't like your CAI b/c it isn't as loud? the cai is giving you more power than the ram air ever could. I'm hoping you were kidding about not liking it.

did you mean me? well if the loss of nice Vtec noise was replaced by power i'd be happy, but i felt no power increase. The only good thing is that it dressed up the engine bay. I know everyone raves about the AEM but I'm just not very impressed, one thing i noticed though, if you look at all the top all motor cars they sport a very simple ram intake, the cold air is good but the length of the pipe is bad.

CAIs tend to favor the midrange...which is just ducky for us non-VTECers.
