Default Car theiving hits a new low

Went to Staples today (Solana Beach) to pick up some stuff for architecture; parked next to some white hf with black bumpers, black 17" noname wheels, pretty beat looking car. Come out of staples and theres this guy waiting there standing outside his car. He says something like "nice car, i have the same motor. want to see?" So out of politeness, I say sure and just nod my head to be nice. Sure enough, theres an itr motor which the guy claims he kept from claiming his itr stolen. Then he asks me if I want my car to disapear. I say no, not really but said weirdo still gives me his phone number and name. So xxx, thanks. I have your phone number, name, I know you drive a xxx with whats good as a stolen motor and your plates are xxx. Should my car go missing, I will be at your door and it will not be pleasant.

You should forward the contact info to the auto theft division of the local police/sherrif's dept.

I was just going to say the same thing. Also I think there is a hotline to report possible insurance fraud. I'll see if I can find it.

EDIT: California Department of Insurace: Fraud Division LINK

Well...I guess that's a little better than hands-on thieving, but if he does this, then who knows what else he does eh?

And still - that IS pretty low... Yea no wonder our insurance rates are so high...

So, the question in everyone's mind (on this site) is, ... is it just big ***** or utter stupidity on Alberto's behalf?
Hmmm ... inquiring minds and all that!

He was curious as to where I lived; I said North, not around here. Unfortunatly; I work next to Staples and live about a half mile away. Now I really need to sell the car. If anyone somehow manages to follow me home; I would hope the slew of nsx's, e55's, 911's and other way nicer stuff would sway them from my 7 year old integra.

I know of many that park their german lux cars outside and ITR's inside because of the theft problem. The cold reality for ITR owners is that the ITR's parts are pretty much the most demanding in the auto market. Keep her safe though. Hopefully, he's only into stealing for fraud (It's still low by my standards though)

Couldn't hurt to report him to someone. His name might come up again in the future or the authorities could already be looking for him. Either case, for peace of mind, I would report him to help thwart any future "frauds" or thefts.

we all bitch about thieves but we never do much about it. Tell the cops you think he commits insurance fraud and you think that his R engine is stolen. I'd love to see this guy get buuurrrrrnnnned. Cause if you don't do it, who will?

Ash, just a thought my friend..

First you engage in conversation with this guy who has a less than honest background.. Second, you put him "on the spot" by publishing his name and contact info .. Third, you establish that you intend to turn him in to the authorities.. and last but not least, you publish pretty much a map to where you live .. sooooooo... if I was in your shoes, I'd be keeping a VERY close eye on the R because if "Alberto" has been reading this forum, you can bet he is one very pissed off camper..

I did not engage in conversation with anyone, this guy was waiting for me. But you have valid points.
