Alright guys, a little help. I bought a new DOHC VTEC head, just need to be sure that it is, in fact, a '97 Type R head. I know for sure that it's a '97 by the date stamp, but do you all have a PR3-4 stamped on the exhaust side??

 

A little help, I think the stamp says PR3-1... not quite sure

 

If the stamp on the head says 97 its off a 98 car...

 

That's not always true. My head says 97, but I know it came from a 97 car. You can check the cams and all the internals of the head...blah blah blah...just the usual junk.

 

Look down inside the ports and look to see if it has a mild port, you see how the finish of the port by the opening is a rougher casting look, then look down in by the head of the valve, it should have more of a cut machined look. If it looks like the cast look all the way down you have a b16 head. If its been cut you either have a mild ported b16 or a r head.
