Default Helical (planetary) v. Spur Gears

Can any of you describe the advantages of helical gears over spur gears? Are they worth the extra cost?

Helical gears only advantage over straight cut is that they are silent. Straight cut can take more power, they dont push away from each other, and are cheaper to produce.

Also... Planetary gears are something completely different. Planetary gearsets can be cut either way, helical or straight.

Helical gears are so much more superior then the straight cut gear.

They handle more power because the load is distributed over more of a contact area and are also silent.

Only advantages to a straight cut gear is that it reduces chances of having that gearcome out of gear during accel, also why it is used so often in reverse, and are cheap to manufacture.

Also should add, Another advantage to straight cut is that the create less stress on the transmission case.

That's true, the rest is rubbish.

I know from what everyone says that straight cut gears are stronger but leave out all other factors on loads etc.

One gear vs the other, the helical is a stronger gear.

Which one is stronger on a stock b series transmission, most likely the straight cut because the case isn't the strongest, but if you had a stronger casting that could withstand the loads created by helical cut gears, then the stronger case with helical gears is a stronger tranmission.

This is fact.
