what LSD to put into my GSR tranny?
i have a USDM GSR tranny and i was wondering what lsd would be better..alot of people talk about putting a type r lsd into a gsr tranny but i couldnt find anything about OBX LSD into a GSR..
i was considering OBX as i heard some good feedback about it..im just wondering if anyone out there has swapped lsd into their GSR tranny..what kind of lsd was it? what else had to be done?
so far im actually considering OBX over type r..but id like to get some feedback..thanks in advance!

Phantom grip sucks ball. Get you a itr lsd and put it in there. Use you bearings off of the GSR diff and put them on the ITR lsd along with the ring gear and speedo gear. I have one in mine and love it

Well, how much power are you going to be putting down? The ITR LSD doesn't fare well over 300whp, and even less if you load/unload it often. Mine literally grenaded inside my tranny and totalled it. The C-clip literally vaporized and I couldn't even get the case open.
I have heard numerous experiences with the OBX LSD. Some good, some bad. Some fitment issues, some fit perfectly. There are rumors (I can't comfirm or deny this) that OBX contracted the same people that made the Quaiffe one. It looks exactly the same and also has a lifetime warranty. It can hold lots more power than the OEM Honda one.
Do a search for OBX LSD and you're bound to find lots of info on it. Finding a specific instance of the OBX piece in a GSR isn't important, as putting the piece in any Honda tranny is the issue. I've read accounts of it being put in B16's and LS's.

A Phantom Grip is NOT an LSD. It's basically two metal plates that spring outward and lock the "spider" gears in the stock differential. If you're looking for a cheap/moderately effective way to lock the differential, then this might be a good solution, but remember it definitely is NOT a real LSD.
Turning on it feels awkward, and in my experience, it's really only okay if you're doing drag runs.

Again, the ITR is good, but only for a certain power level. It is true that it bolts directly into the 4.400 GSR tranny. Just to clarify, is the speedo gear the same as the idler gear on the countershaft?

Just search for OBX LSD or differential here. There is a lot of information available. As for the OEM Honda LSD, as I said before, it doesn't take much power. 300whp or so and it'll go out. It'll support even less if you load and unload the differential. This means having the wheel(s) in the air for a moment or two (due to bumps in the road, an aggressive autocross/roadcourse, etc) and then having them contact the ground again and have traction. I'd say you're at the limit of what it can take at 250whp being that (in my experience), 300whp was the maximum.

Not when you look into buying a new transmission the one you put the diff in gets destroyed. Please research it, and pay special attention to the fact that once installed, you cannot remove your axles.

My opinion is Phantom Grip is at the bottom of the pyle, they are not expencive so that why you get what you pay for, they will break your spyder gears i just took mine out. Quaife hands down the best, you can't beat the life time warranty on it

Not exactly. There were reports that the OBX LSD gave you problems removing the axles. The ITR one, Quaiffe, etc are all fine.

hmm..well if im only looking to get 250whp..should the ITR one be fine? if obx is going to give me problems..then i dont want that kind of lsd..

Like I said in my previous post, you're going to be at the limit of what it can handle if you load/unload the differential. Personally, I don't like to be at the limit of anything car modification related, whether it be injector size, turbo size, axle strength, etc.

Do you even read the posts? 250 and will be at the limit of what it can handle in certain conditions. If you want to risk it, get it. If not, then don't.

I've heard lots of good about OPM diffs, lots of HC and IT guys use them and beat the poo out of them. Anyone have any input on the "better phantom grip"?

it's just a message board man I dont get offended. your intrested my set up its an Lsvtec 9:1 compression b16 tranny open diff. for now my turbo kit is waiting for it at my pad witch i went 13.4 with on a stock ecu/block Ls on street tires. about LSD's I had a typeR onre in my LS tranny back back in the days and loved it. I got it for 350 shipped off EBAY check there they seem to have good prices. now a days I would consider an OBX over a typeR but I think I would rather just spend a few hundred more for a Quife.

people say that obx is just as good tho.. and costs less with a lifetime warranty..thats what ive found on here..iono.. i need money to do this first anyways

I would install a quaiffe diff, how many miles are on the tranny, you may even want to look at replacing some syncros while the gear box is open. Nothing like having a nice rebuilt tranny. I have a quiaffe and it is a quality peice. I do not think you will have any issues. You will need to get two bearings as well that will run approx 50 bucks each and then possibly get a shim if the diff does not fit 100%. Mine fit fine so a shim was not needed.
