Other riders
I'll admit - I'll push the bike if there is aboslutly no one else around me - and I'm talkin about a dead straight away in front and behind. But by pushing it, I'm saying going up to 100 and slowing down.
Generally I ride the speed limit or 5 below - for the sheer fact I don't trust the drivers around me, and I don't need to go fast.
For the ***** that go 100mph weaving in and out of traffic - I wish i had a log to throw in front of you so you'd fall. At least I'd wait for no one to be around you to do so, so that way you'd not hurt the cars around you.

When I see t00ls riding around 100+ and weaving through cars like obstacles, it does get me pissed off. I don't wish anyone harm though, but if I saw them go down I would just pass by without helping.
What can you do man, nothing. I'll admit when I've been out in BFE with no cars around I'll hit 100 and then backoff, that's the extent of my stupidity. I'm not an IcEy h0t StUnTa though, I can't do wheelies, I'm scurred

What would Jesus do? Seriously.
When I see people riding fast it generally makes me respect the power of the machine, since I'm generally not going all that quickly.
Have I gone stupidly fast? Sure. When your bike reaches 100 mph at the top of 2nd gear it is pretty much unavoidable.
PS: "It's dumb but whatever" is basically the same as "Live and let live"

This is actually not the smartest thing I've ever heard you say. Doing the limit or below in our area is a recipe for staying sandwiched between cars on 66, 29, 7, etc.
I keep up a speed that will allow me to escape large clumps of traffic and get to clear road as quickly as possible. Spending time around cars is much more dangerous than going a few mph above the limit.

Just heard a chopper with no helm crash and die about 30 yards from me last week. When I see people racing around like that it annoys me. They are what gives decent rider's a bad name.

i do free spirited riding with my friend. when we're at red lights they always ask us to race... its happened like 5-6 times with in a week. we just laugh and tell the driver maybe some other time. I get on it once in awhile but their are no cars around at night. I wont take it over 70 on the streets. I slow down at intersections and hold in the clutch incase theirs a cop at the light...Havent sped on my bike in awhile though...Im in it for the cruise

I'm not talking about just going fast, I'm talking about A-holes going fast AND weaving in and out of traffic. They have no regard to others around them. That just gets no respect from me.
to inconsiderate t00ls. I don't mind it if anyone is hauling *** if there's no traffic around though.

I could care-less if people ride wrecklessly, thats their choice, putting their lives in danger. They are not going to "HURT the cars around them" as you stated. In most motorcycle accidents which a car is involved the car did not even realize they hit a motorcycle. What is the point of getting mad at people who ride in a differnt manner than yourself?? Does seeing a harleys on the road upset and anger you? Do you go home and kick your dog because of it? If so, you need help, take a deep breath and calm down and maybe seek some mental help. Seriously. Just because you go 5 under the speed limit. If you lived somewhere where there is HIGH VOLUME traffic (a city of 3-4 million people). You are just as much a hazard as the guy whos speeding. So relax, maybe jump on a goldwing or something...get some ABS and airbags on your bike.

I don't know about that - when I'm driving on 66 - for the short period that I do i get on from the parkway and take the 28 exit - so I'm in the right lane going with the cars that go that slow, which is usually 5 m ph below or exactly the limit.
as far as 29 i make sure not to get sandwiched and put myself in a position I don't haev to worry about it, if i can speed up and get around cars I'll do so and get back to my normal speed. But then again - most of my riding is done with some of my friends so we are a pack of about 4-5 bikes.

I'm not saying anyone has to ride my way - my way is currently appropriate for me. It makes me angry seeing ppl speeding at 100mph ziggin and zaggin through traffic, because it puts negative views on us "loonatic" riders. We already get stereotyped enough as reckless and careless and crazy.
Why would me seeing a harley rider upset me? it upsets me when they don't wave back because they have no respect for "crotch rockets." And where I live, I believe it's one of the highest volume of traffic in the US. At least top 5. I just strong disagree with bikers speeding at 100mph and weaving. To me, IMHO, it's just like ****** street racers.

Just a few ways it does matter...
-Car driver gets freaked out and slams on the breaks or swerves into oncoming traffic (see that thread in GDD about brake checking?)
-Biker hits car and doesn't hurt car but the other cars that pile up behind it are injured
-Biker goes down while taking unncessary risks and insurance companies have to cover their costs somehow
-Traffic jams caused by accidents
-More accidents means more cops doing traffic duty and looking for speeders. More cops means higher taxes and more tickets (in your car too).
-Drivers/cops/legislature see this behavior and associate it with sportbikes. Lack of respect means our opinions don't matter whether it be road safety, profiling or the lack of tax breaks that fuel efficient cars get.
That one rider may get away with it their entire life but the aggregation of unnecessary risks as a whole does compund into a tangible impact. To say otherwise and you might as well not vote because "one person can't make a difference".

Really anything a sportbiker does is going to be met with scorn and anger by miserable people in cars. I was splitting lanes once and had a guy chase me down Rte. 7 at speeds up to about 85 mph before I finally got scared and left him for dead. He was angry at me because I wasn't "waiting in traffic like everyone else." He didn't mention anything about the law...he was just pissed because he had to wait and I didn't. He actually told me, "You're the kind of person that makes people have accidents and die." I guess that's true, because he got pissed off enough at me to chase me at 80mph in his Volvo.
We talk about "weaving in and out of cars at 100mph," but what does this mean? We throw it around like it's something we see all the time, but one can't really "weave in and out of traffic at 100mph" unless the traffic is already doing 80mph or so. In which case, I'm not going to be too concerned about pissing off a guy who's already going 15mph over. And what constitutes a 'weave?' A freaking lane change? I dart between cars all the time and I also lane change when I am traveling at higher speeds. If I were to pass one of you while doing this, would your blood boil? For the sake of your mental health, I hope not.
And I think some of you should take a trip to Europe, it might change your perspective. If you're in a car, on any road, you will be routinely getting passed by all manner of bikes. It's not reckless, it's just the way it's done. Granted, the enforcement over there is a lot less stiff, and public attitudes about bikers are less venomous, but it would still open up your eyes to the fact that much of what we've been conditioned to view as "jackassery" is just what motorcycles do in less prudish parts of the world. We've still got this Anglo-American Calvinist consciousness that automatically sets warning bells off whenever someone's living life on the edge, and it's really just unhealthy.

Eurpoe yes, England no. In the UK 90% of the public treat bikers like plague victims. Meets are banned from loads of pubs and the current head of the Gestapo (Our wonderful Police force) is anti bikes. Speed enforcement is an absolute nightmare with fixed camera and mobile units lurking everywhere.
However bikes do overtake here, they have to as the roads are way more narrow. You can tell who has owned a bike before as they will move over for them, I always try to if in traffic. It does irritate me though when the latest gixxer or whatever decides to weld itself to the back of my car, I dont really take that very well.
The best place I have been is Italy. People actively encourage you to push on. Speeding is seen as a national right and the cops are very generous most of the time. I have known one cop car over there to actually goad a superbike into pulling the front up, thats the Italiians for you. I mean whats worse int he great scheme of things a bit of assing about or a rapist loose on the street somewhere.....exactly.

I learned to drive in the capital of Belarus... Minsk, where they take 2 lanes going one way, and fit 5 cars - you turn where you want - stop when you want. It's scary - I couldn't fathom riding a bike there.
I could see though how Italy supports speed - I mean look what type of cars they make

I usually think stupid is as stupid does, the only reason I would get upset is if they are in traffic, because your are putting other people at risk. People do what they want I think its crazy when I drive past people wearing jeans and a T-shirt, As someone who has gone down hard-your gear is all you have and to simply not wear it—just Darwin at work.
