LS Final Drive??
Alright here goes,
I have a Hydraulic B16a tranny, I recently killed the stock diff and plan on replacing it with a Quaife. I have a turbo setup on the car that will be roughly putting out 400whp. I need longer gearing and was wondering if I should just change the final drive to an LS (S80 i think) which is 4.266. Will that fit? Where can I buy final drives that dont cost $800-1200 (Id like to spend a lot less than that if possible).
Or should I just bite the bullet and buy a gear speed transmission for $2300?
Thanks

The type R gearing is too short for my setup. It's very similar to the stock b16a gearing that I have now. I should be trapping high 120's mph in the 1/4 mile so I would have to shift into 5th when most other people would still be in 4th.
The type R final drive wouldn't fit in the B16 anyway. LS/B16 is one family, while GS-R/Type R is in another Final Drive family.
For the gearing, the Final Drive and 5th gear is what would lengthen that. I had a full LS tranny, but now have changed to a JDM Type R Final Drive w/ Cusco LSD and LS 5th gear. It works great.

Hey Shodan, how did that Type R final drive feel when you installed it. What was the difference?
Thanks.

I made that combination for road racing, not for the drag strip, so I have no idea about any trap speeds. The car will never see the drag strip. All I can say is that 3rd ends pretty quickly to go to 4th, and I'm at about 132 by turn 12 at Gingerman. 4th ends perfectly enough at 8000 to get back into 2nd quickly enough..

It is BEAUTIFUL... I love the torque multiplier of the gearing of the 4.785 final drive. It's actually perfect. the drive is much better than a GS-R and even a Type R (If you know how to do the calculations) but not a JDM Type R itself. It's great. The rpms don't stay too high either even in 5th on the highway, and contrary to belief, it does not ruin my fuell economy by any means.
It has the same changes as though I had a Type R w/ an ATS 4.9 final drive.

I say you just get and LS tranny and put the quaife on that, short gears are for N/A cars, im my opinion you'll need longer gears to let your turbo spool

Not neccesarily. it also depends upon the turbo used and the purpose of the car. I was tired of dropping 2 gears anytime I wanted to do a highway pull.

I want the best drag setup i can get. I should be trapping high 120's mph so if I put 24.5 inch slicks on my car i should be set for those trap speeds and will be just topping out 4th gear.
