Excuse me for not knowing...but what in the world is this and why is it leaking and could it be the reason for my clunking? Thanks in advance...

looks like the front LCA rear mount to me. (notice sway bar mount in second pic)
They don't have anything to leak, something must be dripping down on it.

what kind of clunk do you have?

Good call, either way I was going to say the same thing, something is leaking up above.

Yea, a transmission mount would explain the clunking I think. Because it happens when the car is sitting off and i turn the wheel from side to side, and when I am engaging the clutch, and gas suddenly.

But I'm not so sure that that is a mount. It connects to the lower arm on the suspension.

And I'm not sure what could be leaking down on it, its clear of pretty much everything...

those are torque mounts. One is hooked up via the A/C bracket and the other from the bracket on the front of the tranny. It shouldn't be leaking as the is no fluid in it to leak. It could possible be leaking from your power steering pump

theres one of those on the end of each of your front LCA's.
they're just bushings.

I remmeber it vividly, as I had to change my lca's out for ones that work with a front swaybar.
and the lca's have that thingie hooked onto the end of it.
there is nothing in it that can leak

your leaking is coming from elsewhere and flowing down over that bushing.

I have my a/c and ps removed. Would it still be it?

So, if thats the case, then its probably not the source of my clunking...

Either im completely blind or completely dumb, but i looked at those pics for a good min or 2 and i dont know how you guys got Torque Mounts. Those look like Control Arm mounts/brackets/whatever.

Torque mounts look comepletely different and are held on in a completely different location.

Do you have any leaks coming from above? Is this a 96 or up car with stock upper engine mount? If so look around there for any type of oil. Looks like you might have popped that. Also if you have PS look around there if theres any leaks. From the pics it doesnt seem to be spraying anywhere so its a straight drop spill. Shouldnt be hard to locate.

Actually that is not a torque mount, it is the back of the control arm as stated. And it looks to me that the bad one is the drivers side. If this infact is the case I would check the brake components such as the master cylinder and booster for leaks as those should be above your leaky gooey mess.

your shock isnt bown is it? that could explain the fuild, and the clunking sound. but it would probably pop/clunk over bumps if it was.

just a thought.

its your tranny seal by the axle, check the axle closest to that area both the CV boot and where the axle is inserted into the tranny... If its a B series.

I just got the axles change last week, could it be fluid that spilled from that just leftover. The clunking was happening before the new axles too...I got them changed because I thought it was CV Joints...

yep you guys are right I was looking at the picture wrong.

Those are not torque mounts. But it the car had PS and he removed all the lines then the fluid will still leak out for a while unless he plugged the holes against the firewall where the lines were originally connected.

If you had the power steering removed but still have the ps rack, then its probably ps fluid seeing as how the ps line all hook up close to right above the spot where your picture shows that it is leaking from, and the clunking noise could also be caused from the rack and pinion, they dont all go bad like that but i have seen it happen on a prelude when i worked for the honda dealership in the shop. The lady had complained about a clunking noise and a vibration in the steering column and i took a look at it and grabbed the rack and shook it up and down(as best i could while still bolted in the car) and sure enough it made a clunking noise just like she said she heard. Like i said though, it may not be the problem your having but thats what it sounds like to me. Hope this helps

Holy misinformation Batman! That is the big bushing that the end of the lca slides into and that bracket attaches it to the frame of the car.

Rack & Pinion eh? I'm getting it checked out next Monday, I'll be sure to tell them to check that.

Thanks!

did you check the front lca bushings? check your axles as well for clunking... even if the boot is good, the inside of the axle could be crap

99-00 Si by the look of it.

Only things over there that would leak are the engine oil, Brake fluid (that paint would be bubbly if that was it), and whatever is left over from the power steering. My guess is the PS rack leaking where the lines were taken off.

As far as the clunk, check your rear motor mount bolt.

Try the upper ball joint. With the car on the ground, reach above the front tire and grab the steering knuckle and try to move it front and back for movement. This is the source of my clunking under the same cirumstances.

Also check your motor mounts (lower front ones) for cracks.

Good luck.
