Default Car sound help

So for the last week my '02 Civic Si has been making these horrible metalic grinding sounds (only in the back). At first I thought it was the brake pads, so I checked it out. There's still a lot of pad back there. The front brakes are a little low (much lower than the rear) but the sound is STILL coming from the back. On removed the brake pads and spinning the rear wheels, the sound sounds like its coming from the axel (rear center of the car).

I took it Honda World this morning and told them to fix it but the coniving bastards are trying to blame it on the brake pad sensors, saying the pad is worn to the sensor in the rear and is 2mm from the sensor in the front. This is obviously because the rear pads have 3x as much padding left as the front (front brakes wear faster)... but they just want to hit me with an $88 diagnostic fee because brake pads technically aren't covered in Hondacare.

Any ideas on what's going on so I can outsmart those bastards?

Also - the steering wheel gets gooey and sticks to my hands in very cold weather. They blamed it on dirt and so wont replace the steering wheel... except that this has been happening since 1month after I purchased the car new in '03. Any idea on that?

Help me out quick, I have to be back to get the car by 3:00pm PST.
