Default Shoes/boots - school/work and some spirited riding

I need to get some riding shoes/boots but Im not sure exactly what to get. I would mainly use them for going to school and work, with some spirited riding along the way, nothing crazy. You guys think I should go with some Timbs or just regular high tops, or should i get riding boots. thanks.

I'd go with a dedicated riding boot. There are hundreds of incidents where high tops and even timberlands have ripped off of the riders foot at first contact with the ground.

I've been looking into the Sidi Cayenne or Scorpion's for everyday riding when I don't want to wear my race boots. Give them a look

Ripped off? I have never heard about anything like that, but I just started riding so thats probably why, hence the nOOb question. Thanks for telling me about that, now I def. going to look at some riding boots.

for some casual looking, everyday riding boots, i'd go for some icon boots. i'm not one to recommend icon products, but my buddy had some icon boots and lowsided pretty bad and they did it's job.

I have a pair of the Icon boots. They have a plastic buckle with a leather strap like a ski boot that goes over the instep of your foot. They shouldnt come off if you crash. I crashed with them once, my worst and fastest crash it turns out and they stayed on without a problem.

Are you doing a lot of standing/walking at school or work? If so, buy some real riding boots (Sidi, A*, Oxtar... whatever fits you best) and bring along a pair of comfy shoes. Yes, it's extra crap to bring, but your feet will thank you.

Exactly. Also, since your a newer rider (like me) I would reccomend to get into some boots as soon as possible because if you've been riding around with tennis shoes or whatever, it will definately take a little getting used to riding in boots.

I ride to work in my Oxtar TCS's and have some regular shoes in my backpack The Oxtar's are comfortable enough to wear all day.... but they squeak a lot

Why not just keep the shoes at work, instead of carrying them back and forth? I keep two pairs of shoes at work, under my desk I don't think my Sidi vert 2's would go very well with my buisness casual clothes

Well I carry my laptop in my backpack too, so I can fit the shoes in there . Plus the dress around here is casual so I could get away with the boots.

I keep my Adidas sandals at work in case I get tired of walking around in my A*. Needless to say we're very casual here.

Its not really for work, more for walking to and from class. I commute to school so there isnt much walking involved, for now Im using some mid-hi top basketball shoes.

If you can stand the squeaks, then just wear the riding boots to class.

How important is it to have the boots that come up and cover the shin. Does anyone else here commute to school, what do you guys wear?

I wear

Dr. Martins 1460

or

Alpinestars S-MX Plus

stay away from low tops and loose fitting shoes/boots. It's important to cover your ankles and have little or no flex on your ankles sideways.

Very important. I'm sure boots could have possibly prevented my shattered fibula, i was wearing some DC Shoes.

Now i get to live with an 8in metal plate and screws going up my leg. Those Sidi's sound really nice to me right now ..

Is that the ICON motorhead? Some made a thread about that boot, im not sure if it was on board or another. How much was it? Does it have extra protection in the ankle area?

haha yeah completely understandable, i was gonna get all black to get the whole "boot" effect, lookin at some a* right now. They look a little more discrete than the sidi.
