Default lightweight doors?

hi, anyone ever weighed a complete 88-91 civic hatch door (preferrably one with seatbelt in door) before and after gutting that removes all insides except for door handle, yes without glass too.) so how much weight is that each side? i'd imaging a huge amount. i'm talking cutting out the inner half of the door too so it is basically the outside face and the outer door pocket to hold the latch.

this would be with a cage.

thanks b

I will assume that you have looked very carefully at the SCCA GCR on this subject. The current rule for a car in IT and some other classes allows a specific amount of material that can be removed from the door. BTW: the rulebook can be viewed online. How much of a weight saving you will have will depend on the amount of stuff that comes out. I do know that the seatbelt assembly is not light nor is the glass and lift assembly. On the passemger side the current state of the rule does NOT permit fully gutting the door-so wait until it is finalized. Also keep in mind that the driver's door must have 2 NASCAR style bars in the cavity to comply with the rule for gutting.
Yes-you will lose a good amount of weight overall until you consider the weight of the cage bars. Happy racing

sheesh. i could only wish there was that type of racing here on a real track.

so i have no concerns on IT classes etc. this will not be for scca, etc type events. it is a small series being run here called superlap, so only basic rules are set so far. so lets say no limit to gutting the doors. how much would/could i save at the doors? 25 pounds each side at least?

if held a crx door that was pretty much a door skin with the front and rear panels for the hinges and door latch. even the frame starting from the mirror, up the a pillar and back down the B pillar was cut off. lets just say i could hold it easily enough, like 15 lbs maybe.

i struggle to lift a stock door and carry it down the driveway, without the window glass.

my rexes doors, are hella heavy. at my work we work on older cars muscle cars and hot rods... rex doors are heavier than probably every door ive carried without power motors in them. id say prob 100lbs each door. complete with mirror panel...everything... i recently had my doors gutted for painting, and they doo get a good ammount lighter, but not any more than your average door, id say completely gutted between 25-35 lighter... the structure of the door itself is why it ways sooo much... hope this helps
