Default Help me pick a sub!!1!11one!

I have an MTX 81000D Mono block amp (500 RMS?@ 4 ohms and 1000watts @ 2ohms)

I was planning on running it at 2 ohms to maximize output. (Anything wrong with doing that? I'm somewhat of a system n00b)

The thing is, I just want to run ONE 12" woofer. My days of impressing people in the other cars are over and would just like something that sounds GOOD.

I was looking at Alpine Type R's with dual voice coil, but don't really know if that would be the way to go or not.

Any help would be appreciated.

The Alpine type"R" subs are 500W rms, get the DVC 2ohm wire the VCs in series for a 4 ohm load, it will work just fine, the amp will draw less power. it will run cooler, and with the amp making 500W @ 4 ohms its just right for the sub. 94

First off - that amp is 1500W at 2 ohms - IF! you can get 14.4 volts.........

Get a 15" MTX 9500 - you can buy my system........Kills the W7 - check out my sig........

The Newer type-rs are pretty nice.......or get two type X subs..........<--now those are badass.

you prolly havnt herd of em but theyre sick, massive audio comp subs are great i have their cw12 and it slumps harder/cleaner than a diamond audio m6 and thats sayin a lot. if you have the cash buy the dmx but you dont wanna hafta deal with the power it takes for that sub. the cw12 is jus fine and sounds very very clean...o ya the cone is removable incase you blow it after warranty....got mine for 200 bucks and id choose it over any sub in that price range or most setups with 2 twelves

The 9500 beats the Diamond TDX though.........i don't think you meant dmx - never heard of that.......and I thought the m6 was Memphis?...and the d9 was Diamond?.....I don't know i think I am kinda rusty on that subject.

..........I'm pushin 1500W to my 9500 and I guarantee it'll kill the cw12(whatever that is).........the 9500 is loud as hell - but in order for it to be crystal clear - you have to mess around witht he frequency **** a bit.....depending on what songs you play.

Awesome, so your shitty 15" sub sounds like **** unless you adjust it everytime the song plays?

how about you just answer his question instead of being a total ********** and trying to sell your shitty system in every single thread.

he clearly stated he wanted a single 12" subwoofer, and he wanted clarity not ricey noise.

Your shittastic system fulfills neither requirement. Douchebag.

I used to have a type R with ~400W going to it..sounded awesome.. good and loud inside the car, and you pretty much couldnt tell i had a sub if you were more than 10 feet away from the car.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I think I'll probably be going with a Type R. Hopefully I can get a good discount on it through one of my friends.

King pin:

I looked at the 9500 a while back, but then realized how sloppy the bass would be since it's a 15" sub. I want something that sounds crisp and clean. Also my amp can PEAK at 1500, but it's RMS is 1000 at 2 ohms.

Anything else that's comparable to the Type R but sounds better around the same price range?

Thanks

I'm not sticking up for the MTX speaker because I know nothing about it. But your assumption that a 15" speaker will sound sloppy compared to a 12" speaker is dead wrong! A 15 can sound just as accurate as a 12" It will also be better at playing lower frequencies. It will require more power to power it.

There are plus and minus to each but being sloppy is not one of them.

I'm not exactly sure what kind of price range you are looking at but Image Dynamics and Resonant Engineering both makes awesome subs. RE makes three awesome subs (RE, SX, XXX). All three are top quality. Image Dynamics subs are awesome also. I've personally owned 10" and 12" IDQ series subs and I couldn't be more pleased with them. THe IDMAX series will handle the kind of power you are talking about with no problem. I'm getting ready to purchase and IDMAX 10" myself.

I was actually referring to the "Not so top of the line Subs" like the MTX, or even an Alpine TypeR. They sound somewhat 'sloppy' on low volumes.

But yes, you're right that they are better for lower frequencies, something which got me interested in them in the first place.

In my experience, Type R's do not sound all that great. I personally think the Type E's sound better. But if you;re looking for good clarity, I have a Eclipse Titanium 12'' and it reproduces kick drums flawlessly. Of course, with any system you have to tune it right or it will sound like ****. IMO, go and listen to some products at your local audio shop and see what you like. And yes, 15's can sound just as clear as 12's if you tune it correctly.

Haha - ****** - did i say that.....i said you have to adjust the frequency depending on what kind of music you listen to - meaning if you listen to rock, you have to change it........, hip hop, rap, country, everythings different.....everything has different frequency ranges......Most changes can be made with at the head unit....

Oh darn, ****** NooB - i htink you hurt my feelings......Yeah and bitch - i sold it by the way for $970 - go suck a **** you ******* ******.

Anyway back to subject - if you want the ultimate 12" subwoofer - get an Alpine Type X - they're pretty loud, and so damn clear..........so so damn clear.........better than ANY subwoofer that i've ever heard.....no lie. THey cost about $400 for a 12" - they don't make 15s...............

Maybe you should stick with sealed boxes.Or get a box built right.

What the expletive are you talking about? my box was built to MTX spec - if you knew anything dick lips, you'd know that EVERY car has its own frequency - so when changing vehicles, you'll have to adjust the frequency no matter what.

And every sub has its own frequency playing range...
AND every kind of music has its own frequency range......

I never said you have to change the frequency every time you play a different song - i said the frequency should be adjusted according to what kind of music is being played - and i'll elaborate that everything can be done by the head unit........

The only time the frequency needs to be adjusted is when switching vehicles.
