What you should do is get your tags and license, then worry about the other things.

Don't bother. When your bike gets impounded, I can buy it for cheap.

Glad you gotta bike! Take it easy, get your stuff together, and most importantly: enjoy and be safe. Keep the shiny side up!

I'm not judging you, I'm making factual statements. You riding w/o a license, on an unregistered bike is idiotic. It's not a judgment but a FACT!
I know there is no "need" for my input, but when someone is being an idiot I like to tell them! So "YOUR AN IDIOT!"

Yeah, opinions from anyone from Arizona is totally worthless, no one in AZ has a clue!
Um......
-register the bike
-get insurance
-get gear
-if you bought the bike from a dealership, it *should* be inspection worthy
-take an MSF course
-Dont be a ******* asshat.

No, it really is a judgment. You obviously feel the need to make them; others don't.
People do a lot worse than ride without their paperwork straight, so please just keep quiet if you don't have anything to offer the guy who is asking us what he needs to get his paperwork straight.
For the thread creator - the bike should have an inspection sticker somewhere, probably on the front fork or something. Try looking around near the front brake for a sticker that should have a year in bold - that's the year the inspection runs out.
Make a trip to the DMV. Bring the title for the bike, which the dealer should have given you. Bring any papers you feel are relevant. Bill of sale, etc, whatever. I don't live in NJ so I don't exactly know how it works.
About licensing - most places will make you take a written test for your learner's permit, then give you an exam for the road test. Go get your permit first...then take the license test when you're ready.

Ross, a vehicle has to be inspected any time it changes ownership, at least that is how it is where I live. So regardless, it should be re-inspected.
Heres a crazy idea, why doesnt the original poster go to his local DMV quicky-mart and ask himself.
Or maybe use google, find his states DMV website, and read the laws regarding vehicle sales, registration and inspections? Crazy idea but it just might work.
