Default Difference in Distributors

what do you look for to tell if your dizzy is a Hitachi or a TEC? Is the Hitachi only for the HX, and teh TEC for the cx, dx, and ex? The reason I ask is i'm looking at MSD's product line for a cap w/ external coil. It comes up with 2 choices, 8291 & 8292. The determining factor is the type of dizzy. For a OBD-IIB motor. Thanks
