Can disconected/broken VSS cause CEL......?

i have a 91 civic hb with GSR swap & convered to hydro tranny & OBD1 with p72.

When i drove it the EF vss cable broke on me. I wanted to know if the VSS cable is broken or causing the Speedo not to work would that affect my p72 THROWING a cel or cause vtec not to work?

causes a code 17 which throws the ecu into limp mode and does not allow the vtec to engage.

I belive my ef speedo cable broke cause there was too much tension on the line. I was thinking about getting a DA one.

Q:
how much time should i allow myself to take out cluster/dash and re-install new DA cable?
