How much should I offer for this hatchback?
Finally sold my 98coupe and should be getting the money this week....so gotta buy a hatch soon. Here's one I found that seems to be in very good condition. Seems as though hatches around here in LA are overpriced. Anyways....how much should I offer him? I was thinking $3300-3500 in cash. Heres a description and pictures:
1992 Honda Civic DX Hatchback
82,000 Miles
5speed
10CD changer
Alarm
$4500

That thing is <appears to be> really clean! Does the owner have records of scheduled maintaince? You could talk him down saying that Belts and water pump will need to be changed. How are the tires? Another thing you could get for cheaper. Good luck, hope you pick it up!
If you wait and look, you'll find a better deal. I got mine for $1800. 93 dx with barely any dings. The only problems was that one seat had a small tear. But if those things were fixed, i wouldn't have paid over 2700 for it. Mileage was high, but i didn't care. Did a motor swap. Anyways... that is a little too much. There was a guy on civichatchback.com in San Diego that was selling his cx for 3000 w/b18b. Just to give you an idea.

Motor condition doesn't matter...cuz after i get the hatch...I'm going straight to ImportBuilders.....I really want the body to be in good condition and not TOO many miles on the chassis. I know patience is the key...but I'm trying to find something quick cuz I commute to school (pain in the **** working around roommates' schedules). Oh, and really can't wait to go hybrid!

I paid about 4500US (7000 CAN), but mines a 92 Si, had under 70k miles, very good condition. That is way too much for that one, I wouldn't pay anymore than 3000 for it, actually I wouldn't buy it (don't like red).
Do US Dx's not come with a Tach? They do in Canada.

Check the rear trailing arm bushings- big bucks to repair (properly) you can talk them down with that- also- that engine is prone to head bolt stretch which equals headgasket problems- maybe they have had it done already- Make sure they have had it serviced at a dealer or at least used only honda parts (boots brakes etc-) you can talk them down with that too. It will be an easy swap- since it's a 92 it has vtec wires in the main harness already- get some pics under the hood and post them- I should be able to tell if it was hit- but- if they throw in the CLUB- I would buy it hands down!!

Yea, I'm not gonna tell him about the engine. Mileage is already low...I think I'm just gonna go over and take 3330-3500 in cash.

Thats too expensive. My buddy who lives in So Cal drove to San Jose to buy his 92 VX. He got it for $1,600. I guess you gotta go out of So Cal to get the deals.
I bought my 93' hatch for $5500 plus mods.
B16A swap, intake, DC header, new Greddy SP cat back, Del Sol seats, nuespeed race springs with GSR shocks, B&M short shifter, Centerforce dual friction clutch, 00' SI rims, JDM corners, and some other stuff I can't think of.
The only thing about the car is that it has blue interior and I'm in the process of replacing all that to black. It had a few dings in it (it is a 9 year old car), but it hailed on both my ITR and hatch back last week so I'm now having to get both cars fixed. Hopefully they both will be dent free soon.

Is it me or is there a pinstripe along the side of the car? Hmmm... I wonder if they are easily removable.

Hey guys...do you think a 92 with 174,000 miles would be overkill? Engine swap will take care of the motor...but I don't wanna have problems with little things here and there with the chassis. I found a VX for $3000 with that mileage...and am pretty sure I can work down the price.
