I have a 1992 Honda civic SI with a 1999 b18c1 in my car. I want to remove the power steerign however I do not want to replace the whole sttering rack. Can I just "loop" the hose back into the rack and get rid of everything else? I dont drive the car but maybe once every two weeks so I am not too worried about it being to stiff. Has anyone already done this?. Any help is appriciated.

What two do I loop? What do I do with the third line?

You could just remove all of the lines and plug them at the rack. Many people have done this, as have I, and it seems to work fine.

damn, i want power steering in my car... after driving my brother's car for two weeks while i take care of some maintanence on my manual steer i have to say i want power steering in mine.... those fast corners are tough with a manual steer rack... i guess routed power steering rack would be the best thing so i might buy a power steering rack and route the lines to replace my steering rack when it starts breaking down

I haven't noticed a difference with my car without p/s.

btw, to answer your question, yes you can loop on the rack, just not sure the difference in steering after the mod...

There's a detailed write-up on this in this months (or maybe it was last month's) issue of Honda Tuning. They looped it on a hype-R, but same principle.

it's not JSUT the weight
it's also the fact that the engine is turning an extra belt instead of your wheel
power steering = power stealing

You really want to loop all three. The Honda-Tuning article isn't going to be of much help, since it applies to the Integra rack which has only two main fittings, not three like the 5th gen. Civic has.

im just saying, its a nice thing to have. Mostly when in a parking lot. I have absolutely no clue how much power its robbing but i think it cant be all that much. if you have it, id just keep it. imo
its very hard to turn the wheel on a car that originally came with power steering than one that didnt. its how theyre made. unless your building a strict racecar i would advise keeping it. IMO
i had a B16B in my EK coupe, and it came with a bent power steering pulley, so it was useless, now on mine there were only 2 line to loop, i dont kno how much different the eg is, but it has to be pretty similar. i basically cut the hard lines off like 2 inches back from where the fittings bolt up to the rack. now 1 fitting i believe was a 1/4 inch line, and the other fitting was a 5/16 line. i ran a 5/16 line from 1 to the other, but after a day of steering the 5/16 line slipped off of the 1/4 fitting. solution, got 1/4 and 51/6 line, went to ace hardware and got a reducer fittin used for plumbing. its basically 2 barbed male ends, 1, 1/4 and the other 5/16. put lines on filled up both sides of the lines with fluid and put together. never had an issue since.
hope i was somewhat helpful
