zinc coating
I looked but couldnt find an answer......will zinc coating be "eroded" away by the salt they put on the roads? In other words, should I wait till spring to put on my zinc coated rotors or is right now a good time? I live in Montreal, Quebec. AKA canadian winters = crap load of salt and what not on the roads......thanks
The zinc coating on most hardware (nuts & bolts) is meant for protection from the environment. I can only assume that the rotors are plated for this purpose as well. I am unsure as to how long it remains effective, nor if it affects braking performance.
I'm of the opinion that if something can be done to improve your vehicle's performance or reliability, it should be done. If you are planning on synchronizing the replacement of your rotors with other work, then deferral might be a good option.
Consider the likelihood that shops will get backed up as bad weather comes in. People who have put off repairs until they are SOL usually have their problems exacerbated by bad weather... not to mention the fact that you might not be able to test any changes you make if the weather doesn't permit.
If you want to protect your car (rather, its reliability), then I say go for it
. If you want to protect your rotors... I dunno... maybe mount them on a wall??
Let us know how they perform, in good and bad weather!

i would put them babies on...
nothing beats having good brakes in winter.
i live in northern utah and we get **** loads of snow, i understand what its like to get snow jammed inside of everything possible, but as long as you clean the salt off your car often enough it wont break everything down...

haha, i know what its like...
last winter i was rolling a jetta with a 3" drop...
after driving to work it looked like my car had a huge front spoiler on the bumper. all "le mans" style... haha.
i had zinc coated rotors on that on all 4 wheels, if the salt is as bad as you guys are makin it to be, id park my car and worry more about my paint. that **** will ruin paint faster than it will rotors...

yea it's bad... like it will snow a **** load, and keep snowing.. so the city or town w/e will blow it and right behind salt... I'm not complaning.. acctually I am.. i got to drive to school ****!
utah puts down a salt/sand mixture...
its fun when the snow melts, you can slide around corners without braking...
back to the rotors, you really should be fine.
