Question for people who paint cars
Im about to paint my car with a base and clear. Would it be alright if i were to paint the base, and then wait like a week and then spray on the clear?? And like right before when im about to spray the clear, lightly sand the base coat to make sure everything is straight and clean? Or does the base coat require you to clear coat it directly after?
Normally you should not sand between base and clear. However you could do it ,but its not reccomended. You should check with the product manufacturs and get the flash times and recoat windows
Base coat is somewhat delicate and not meant to be exposed to the elements.I always dust enough color to completely cover over any sanded spots in the base. Beside I think the best and most efficient time to clear would be right after the base is completely flashed.
by flash, do you mean dry? so should i paint on the base, then wait like 15 mins and then spray on the clear? also, would it make the clear less wavy if i were to sand the base a bit?
You do not sand the base coat at all. The flash time is the time reccomended by the paint maker before you should clear it or spray another coat. Just get the msds sheets for the products your using it has the info on them
