Better MPG with JDM B16A
All shifts 2500-3000. Then anytime you get to a big down hill, put the car in neutral and drift, when your at the bottom of the hill put your trans in 5th, and just let the clutch out easy.
i dunno abotu your guys, but i havea jdm b16 in a 92 cx and my gas mileage is really good since i did the swap, as long as i dont get on it, if i get on it it drinks gas, but NORMAL driving is great, maybe its just because my other vehicle is a 4.3 vortech chevy, that would explain it...

Agreed...I have a 92 DX and when I got my swap done, the mileage was GREAT....then I got cams and an intake manifold and new throttle body, and it all went to hell. The stock B16 should get pretty good mileage though

Wrong, when going down a hill in gear without your foot on the gas will result in your fuel injectors injectors turning off. Rolling it in neutral will use more gas because it requires fuel to keep the engine spinning. Do a search on this subject.
If you really want to spend less money on gas I would just buy a different non B series engine civic that gets something around 38mpg. You're gonna be saving 3mpg in the city by changing your driving habits...whooopde do.</TD></TR></TABLE>
Do some research idiot when you step on the gas, that gives a command for the comp to dump more fuel. Hence forth the term running rich. That's what happens when u get on the gas. When you idle your engine stays a stoich 14.7 to 1. When you give it gas it goes rich more like 13.9 to 1.

You could get an air intake and exhaust. That would make your engine breathe easier, plus you will net better performance. Also, get fuel injector cleaner and run 91 octane gas. I found that this is the best gas for a b16

generally all mighty honda-tech person the type or engine configuration determines what would be considered "rich" some engines like hybrids and alternative fuel cars run 17:1 or more since gas is just a catalyst to ignite oxygen it usually means these cars many times have higher compressions like the natural gas powered GX which runs a 17:1 AF Ratio but has 12.5:1 compression. Where as high performance boosted cars would not be considered rich when running 20 lbs of boost at 9K with an AFR of 9:1.
13.9 is certainly not even in the realm of rich in fact many cars like the RSX will run 13.5:1 or more at high rpms stock.
The answer to the posters question is especially if you have mods tuning is needed to maximize hp and fuel consumption. Mine went from 11.5:1 in some spots to a consistent 14.05:1 after s100 tuning shown here and jumped way up in power and gas mileage

I wish people would stop overplaying this argument like it's cut and dry, it's not. If you're going down a hill in 5th gear, your injectors might be off but unless it's one very steep hill you're losing a lot of momentum and speed, speed that probably has to be regained with more gas.
If you can throw it in neutral and not break the law by excessively speeding down a hill, you might be using very little gas to keep the engine idling, but you're also potentially gaining momentum and speed.
So I say to each his own.

You're the idiot! He was totally right. The car's momentum will keep the engine running, injectors will not be spraying gasoline, therefore better gas mileage. There's like a 8 page thread about this on Honda Tech somewhere, problem is you thought you'd be a big-shot and try to prove a 100% correct man, wrong. Do the research...jackass!
