holy damaged valvetrain, Batman! yikes! sounds like something's hating it in your engine. i would do a compression and leakdown test first to see if there are any obvious signs of damage. with the engine running rough and sounding like it wants to die, it sounds like a compression issue to me (lack of compression). A bent/floated valve will yield poor compression and if it's only on one cylinder, you would be experiencing a rough idle, etc. can you do a test (or take it to a mechanic, Auto parts store, etc and have them test it) and post up the results?

maybe a blown head gasket??? Probably wasn't the best thing that could've been done to the motor...but its a honda so it will probably still run strong into the 250xxx miles.

compression test/leak down will tell if anythings damaged, if its a VTEC(says it on the valve cover) you are prob ok. possibly you had piston valve contact but you would hear ticking (maybe). At any rate you are an idiot, save misshifting for racing not daily driving. OH and put on your flame suit, you are gonna need it

You won't "see what happens" by changing the oil. Just take it to a mechanic and get the compression tested on each cylinder and go from there. There's a good chance you bent a valve or two and you'll want to get those fixed asap. Don't listen to whoever was telling you about the vtec ****. Yes, its an ex so it has vtec, but that means ****. A bent valve in any engine is bad. Vtec won't fix it...
