Default Please post dyno's of you stock B16 or B18b...researched archive, and last 5-6 months..

hey wus up everybody, i thought i'd never be making one of these posts, but, like many of us it's hard to choose betweeen b6 and b18b. anyways, i kinda started saving for a swap which is gonna take me a lil while and what i want to decide whether to go b16 or b18b, i've searched my rear off and read all kinds of stuff on here, google, yahoo, various car sites, but still can't make my mind up. What i want is a really nice daily driver, swaped, and then lil by lil add stuff to it to make it faster, basically i want a car that i'd use mostly for city driving and some highway driving too, so which one would be better stock to start out with b16 or b18b , most of you will probably say b18b cuz of the torque but i'm kinda more into b16 cuz of the vtak(i kno how to spell it correctly) and the redline and b18b has alotta torque, but posts some charts if you have and give me your opinion, and one more thing, ls/vtecs don't come into question i don't want one of those, boost probably in couple of years so don't throw that at me either, if you wanna help post helpfull stuff ir you're gonna be a ******** and tell to use search button i did, thanks in advance

In your situation, and for what you want and plan on doing, Id go B16, even though i hate B16s...

edit: is it going in that four door? if its then B16, if its going in a heavier car like an EK coupe or sedan Id go B18B, you need torque to move them cows...

You dont need a lot of torque to move EK's cuz most Honda's dont weigh much anyway. Put a B16 in it and have fun withVtec.....thats what I did in my EK4 & it works like a charm.

vTaK is overrated, if you're after good daily driving in the grind, you'd want torque. Swap a B18 and you still have options of boosting it later on and net you even more torque.

Well I have a b18a in my 93 hatch and I take b16s all day, stock over stock... If you plan on making more power down the road and want to really mod a motor go with the b18b but if you just want something with some power and for fun I would choose the b16. My friend has a b16 in his hatch and Ive always thought it was more fun to drive that over mine mainly because of the vtec and the high redline.

Is it a thread about how you cant decide between a b16 or b18b? Yep.
Same topic.
Decide on your own based on what you found searching, dont create a new thread on the same topic thats been discussed dozens of times.
Its ALL personal preference.

However, based on what you seem to want out of it (city w/ highway) Id say LS is the way to go, just because of the higher tq rating. There, I gave you my opinion

I can't seem to find my dyno charts anywhere, but in my last EG I had both at one point or another. With a Toda Header and custom exhaust the B16 threw down 157 whp. With the same header and exhuast the B18 threw down 133. There wasn't enough of a difference in torque to justify me ever installing another B18B without lots of work. The gearing with the B16 is a hell of a lot better as well.

is this going into a civic/del sol ? I didn't see that info, but if you're unsure about the car type, best bet is to post your engine question here: https://honda-tech.com/zeroforum?id=44

your reasoning for the engine swap is kinda weird, you need torque and or high rev for daily driving ? just doesn't make sense with todays gas prices and strict laws.

I'll pretend its going into a Civic or Del Sol... I would recommend the B16A, after all, Honda originally put this motor into some Civics/Del Sols, which should lead you to conclude that its a better choice between the B16A vs B18B.

As for dyno #'s, not too many people who drive around with a stock B16A or B18B get dyno'd, dyno isn't cheap, so that one may be tough to get. But keep in mind that most of the motors are old and have a lot of wear & tear which may have an impact on hp/tq.
