Default 1990 Civic Engine Swap Question

My friend has a 1990 Civic Sedan EX. He has a 1997 Civic DX engine available. The engine code for the 97 is D16Y7 I believe. The question is, can he swap the engine with little to no modification? Another question is, can he use his 1990 transmission? Also what would he need for the swap? Thanks in advance I don't have much time to look for the info myself.
No lame search button answers I tried.

the tranny will bolt up nice and good just gotta use a 90 clutch and a 97 pressure plate unless you have the 90 flywheel as for the wiring just convert both to obd1 and everything else should just bolt right in

His original engine has over 300k miles and is just falling apart. He can get the 97 civic motor which has a little over 60k miles for just 250 bucks.
