Default Tire Help

I plan on going with Kumho ecsta 711. But I'm having trouble trying to decide on what profile I want 205/50/15 or 195/50/15, I hear some people rub with the 205s and some say they dont. This will be going on a crx with neuspeed sport springs.

Your CRX came from the factory with 165/70-13 tires, which are fairly small (but consistent with the economy objectives of that particular model CRX). 195/50-15 is a much better match for your car. The outer diameter of the 195/50-15 is already 2.6 percent larger than stock, so that size will make the speedometer and odometer read low by that percentage. You really don't want to make it any worse with the 205/50-15, which is 4.4 percent larger than stock.

As for rubbing, you'll have to find someone with the same springs (same drop) and the same offset on their wheels and the same size tire to be sure. Rubbing is always a risk when you have a tire that is both wider AND larger in diameter than stock; the 195 is 30 mm wider and 2.6 percent larger, the 205 is 40 mm wider and 4.4 percent larger, so you can see why the risk of rubbing is greater.

Bottom line: Just get the 195/50-15.

I assume you already know that the Kumho Ecsta 711 is not all that great a tire; its main advantage is that it's cheap ($40/tire in 195/50-15). If you don't mind spending a little bit more money, you'll get a lot better performance from the Kumho Ecsta SPT ($58), the Yokohama AVS ES100 ($59), or the Fuzion ZRi ($53).
