I have a 98 ek hatch with the d16y7 that was sitting for a couple of months over the summer as i was cruising a different civic that i had picked up.......anyways, when i started to drive my hatch again it would idle low( about 200-300 rpms) for a few seconds when i would stop at stop signs and lights but after a few seconds of sitting there it would jump back up to about 500-600rpms.(only seems to do this when car is fully warmed up, when it is cold it idles normal)....well after driving it like this for about a week or so my "check engine" light popped on(also, my car seems to be missing at idle???)....so i took it up to autozone so they could throw their generic code reader on it and the guy showed me that i was throwing a "lean fuel curve" or something on his generic code reader but that was all he could tell me.....he told me to try to swap the pcv valve out so i bought one......but it is a bitch to do on my car and i could only get the new one in the hole like halfway.....my car is still running the same as before......i am gonna change the plugs and maybe the cap and rotor.....anyone have any other advice?.....thanks

Specifically what code was displayed on the code reader? My y7 was showing the same symptoms and CEL and it was the primary o2 sensor.

Try that. Same on 96-99 civic.

 

well on a too lean code mostly the problems lie in this

1.bad o2 sensor giving faulty readings, but most liky it would set a o2 code
2. a possible vacum leak
3. bad coolant sensor
4. purge solinoid , pinch the line to see if does anything
5. plugs?
6. wrong fuel pressure

those are just something off the top of my head

o and his car is a 98 thus being OBD2 compliant anything short of a scan tool will not help him ( to the guy on top, A for effort tho)

 

Thanks for your replies......i will try a few things like the purge solenoid and i just got new plugs today and will try them tomorrow......i dont think that it is the o2 sensor b/c the guy at autozone with his generic little code reader said that the reader would say if it was the o2 sensor or not and all it spit out was "fuel system lean" so he said try pcv valve first and if that didnt help try a map sensor........

 

Check your injectors. Unplug the harness to each one, one at a time....if it doesn't change idle on any of them you have a one or more bad injectores. Also check your fuel filter.
