Okay to run without heat sheild around stock cat?
I suspect I have a buzzing sound coming from the heat shield around the stock cat. Is it okay to remove the shield or can the heat from the cat cause problems elsewhere? I know the cat gets very hot, but wondering if it can get so hot that it would heat the floor panels or wiring in the general area without the shield.

It's perfectly fine to remove it but you may feel some extra heat coming from under the e-brake handle. I removed mine and that's the only problem I experienced.
Just make sure you don't park in area with tall grass under your car. The heat from the cat, without a heatshield, can light up the grass.
I'm also wondering about when you pull into the gas station... if there's a spill on the ground is it relatively possible to ignite?
If you have a X degree cat, parked Y feet above Z amount of gas... could it happen?

thanks for the replys. I didn't realize so many had taken off the shield.
couple of other questions.... now that I'm gonna remove the shield, can it be done without taking the cat out first? I know the bottom portion can come right out, but what about the top?
also, why did you guys take yours off? I have this buzzing at about 4000rpm when the engine is cold and I suspect it's coming from the shield. is this a common problem on th type R? I've read where the GSRs have had this problem, but never the Rs.
thanks.
