bearing ???s
I recently missed a shift and went from third to second instead of fourth at about 8000rpm or so either way that was bad.I replaced eight exhaust valves so far 6 of which were bent.I put the head back on the car checked compression 237-240 on every cylinder "great " so i thought. continued to put it back together ,got it done and running ,needed to get my new header w/2-1/2 collector mated to oem exhaust in the process had a test pipe put on.Went to pick it up from exhaust shop ,got about 3 miles to a good running temp, then clap, clap, clap only when i rev.nursed it another mile to my shop.Let known honda mechanic listen and he says most likely spun bearing. My question is can i get away with replacing only the rod bearings if there is only one bearing that is spun and it didnt scar or heat damage the crank.Ive been told you can just replace the bearing and emory cloth the crank. But i want to be sure i dont have to do this again or possibly tear something else up.also it was running real sloppy like up and down rpms, but i may have my timing off, if this sounds like im right please also let me know.if the timing is off its not off by more than a tooth or two.any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks for any future help, tony also if fixing it with just bearings how many miles can i expect from the new bearings.i ask because i buy and sell cars like candy bars.
