Default college bound....moms buying me a new car, thinking of s2k

well im gonna admit it, my mom is congradulating me on entering college cause nobody in my fam besides my bro has entered college, with a brand new car OR or newer car (00-04 ish) so i decded for a while and thought of all the possibilities which i am thankful for so i decded on a s2000. IMO they are hott, gets the job done hp wise and is just a sick *** car. perfect car for santa barbara ca where ima go. (top down, cruising to the beach, gonna be sweet) well i dont know too much about the s2000 besides f20c, rwd and 240hp? (i think) my buddy was telling me there are different body types and stuff so im asking all you s2k owners, tell me some basic general info on the s2ks (00-05) chassis, suspension, hp, soft tops, hard tops, body types, experiences with the car, gear ratio. basic stuff.....im sure you guys get this question a lot but ya, help me please. thansk in advance!!

Have you been to a Honda dealership?

They all pretty much look the same, there are very subtle differences in the 00-03 models.... major difference is glass rear window on 02 and 03 models.

04 and 05 body is still the same, just some minor "tweaks". Wheels are 17s and the engine is a little different, gauge cluster... things like that.

If you want a hard top, buy one.

So your mom is going to buy you a car.... pretty sweet I guess, does your mom want to adopt anyone? I got a credit I need paid off.

Get a job and buy your own, it'll build some character. I don't mean to hate, but you'll be better off in the end.

Hope to extend you a welcome. i've personally got an 05 S2.2k .

I'ts my daily beater and odes a good job at it. I get decent fuel ecomony (23-27 mpg). The new gearing + .2 increase in displacement helps alot for cruisin. Canyon romps are a blast with rwd.

Since this will be your first RWD and you are a newb driver i'd adivse to take it really easy when it does rain.

Get an 04. The price difference between that and an 03 is not much, if any at all. You'll appreciate the difference.

If you get an S2000...i agree with the above post ^^^...the 04's are getting cheaper, and to me, the AP2 is a great platform.

But personally...for a college guy, i dont think this is a great car to get, i would suggest against it, and simply because it is NOT cheap, it is NOT optimal in any way except fun to drive and sporty, no room at all in the car, only a 2 seater, i mean the list could go on and on and on why i dont think this is a great college kids car. Personally, wait until you're out of college, get you something nice and luxurious right now, and wait...you'll enjoy the S2000 more AFTER college.

Thats just my opinion...

g'luck. and we hope you graduate 'college'..
(personally, i don't actually know anyone who didn't attend college but hey... NEW CAR!!!)

i think anything > 04 is fine... you get the motor, you get the glass rear top... good enough...

You do NOT want an S for college. Have you ever parked at a college campus parking lots? Did you notice 99% of the cars with door dings? While I was in college, I've had multiple door dings, spit on the windshield, and someone rammed into my rear bumper, but didn't even leave a note. I had a crappy integra, so I didn't really care. And that's what you need--a car you're not going to worry about (trust me, you'll have enough on your mind come midterms, finals), a car you won't mind too much if someone throws up in it, and a car that won't eat up too much gas. I'd say keep your Accord or maybe get a 4 door GSR/LS.

Don't get a S2000, you haven't even paid your dues yet.

The s2000 is an excellent car. I just advise to get familiar with the car before you do any spirited driving. Not to drive you away from h-t, but you can get TONS of info on http://www.s2ki.com

When i first bought my car i spent days on this site and learned sooo much. Even by simply reading the FAQ's

yeah college isnt cool for new cars.

countless door dings and 12 bb shots to my drivers side door. havent you noticed how many cars have imperfections on their car at college. Just food for thought.

I have to vouch for this. If a new car at the pricetag of an S is the reward, ask for it in stocks from oil companies, or something out there to invest in. That will put you ahead of the game, and you'll end up graduating college with a new F430.

I park my S at school but I park with the teachers. Its pretty much full of high end cars, nothing under 60k. No door dings here. Now if I parked where students park, i would be worried. Too many POS cars and ppl who don't care.

i just bought an 06 rsx type-s and i park ALLL the way in the back where nobody else parks. it's sucks, but it's what i have to deal with at school. the parking spots are soo close, it's not even funny. my old turboed lude got soo many dings it wasnt even funny. there soo soo little room to walk in between cars, people usually walked into cars or rubbed against them. i had trouble walking in between cars and i am 5'9 140. so, im not exactily chubby or anything close to it.

i would get more of a cruiser car instead of a roadster. if you're going to buy a brand new ap2, i would suggest getting a TL or something in that nature. either way, i hope you like parking far far away and enjoy walking.

get an ap2.. it's more friendly for the beginner RWD driver.... and it's a better car for daily driving....

***IMPORTANT*** your first mod should be some performance driving school.... and drive slow and take your time till you take that class.....otherwise you won't have the car for long....

I doubt you can get into college without passing English. I counted 17 grammatical errors in your 1 paragraph. Normally, I would not scrutinize a HT post, but you did say you were going to college. I find it difficult to believe that you are truly going to college.

P.S.
If you really are going to college, choose a reliable beater.

^^^ It doesnt take intelligence to get into college now days..it takes money and a good family name. You could be the dumbest brick on the wall...and still make it into harvard if the cards are right in your hand...grammatical errors mean jack **** in this world...hell, our country pushes EBONICS as a legitimate form of communication in our society...lol, that in itself shows that you could simply make up your own jibberish language and achieve a slew of college education.
