UPDATE - car runs rich at WOT.
for anyone that cares, I figured out what the problem with my car was that I stated in this thread below...
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=135432
basically, for the benefit of those too lazy to open the new window, it was running really rich at WOT.
well, I popped the hood and I noticed that the ground strap that goes from the radiator support to the head was not connected, I strapped it back on, drove it for a bit, and did a few good WOT runs, no black smoke.
so apparently, because my engine wasn't grounded well enough, there was too much resistance and the spark wasn't hot enough to properly burn all of the fuel in the already rich WOT condition at higher RPMs.
I will have to do some more WOT accells to make 100% for sure....
thanks again to the guys that offered suggestions!

So:
increased grounding = better idling AND less resistance ???
Another cure for running rich at WOT = check ground wires ???
This reminds me of a rather lengthy engine grounding post on the ITR forum...but I can't find it.
