To buying an R.
I found a 98 CW ITR with 52,100 on the clock. Clean title, but it has no interior. The owner was building it for H2 in the Honda Challange series. It has a bolt-in 6 point, seats, harnesses, suspension, extra wheels/tires. It is really a good deal in my opinion, but I want a stock R. I kind of have a deal with another member that if I buy this car, we'll trade parts so it will be stock and he can have parts needed for his race car.
I checked with my insurance company about storage insurance, and the closest they offer would hit me at $316/month+ and only 625 miles a month could be put on it. Calculating in the payments, I'd be spending about $480/month on this car. I'd still have my car to drive everyday, so I don't know if it would really be worth it or not.
I would sell my car to cut the cost down, but I wouldn't want to drive the R to school and work, because I put about 1,500 miles a month on my car (plus any trips such as autocrosses which are 100 miles away). Which means I'd be paying more for insurance.
I don't really know what to do, but think I'll pass up this chance to get an R. It'll just give me an excuse to start spending more money on my car I guess, and putting money away for an R.
This is really a pointless thread.

But at least it's Type-R related!

It sounds like what you asked them for is different from what I've got. That could be because of differences between companies (I've got State Farm) or between locations (Illinois) etc.
I don't have "storage insurance". I have the conventional policy coverages - comprehensive (to protect the value of my car against claims arising from causes other than accidents, such as theft, vandalism, theft, fire, theft, theft, or theft); collision (to protect the value of my car against claims arising from accidents); and liability (to protect me against claims of others arising from accidents, such as damage to their cars, injuries, etc). When I put my car into "storage" (actually, it's in my garage; I just stop driving it) for the winter, I suspend the collision and liability coverages, and just keep the comprehensive. (The insurance company calls this "withdrawing the car from service".) It's not special "storage coverage"; it just means that those parts of the policy are no longer in effect, so I don't pay for them. They let me do this for up to a maximum of six months a year. This makes the policy dirt cheap, because the comprehensive coverage is less than 20 percent of my overall cost. I think doing this makes it much less expensive than the approach you're taking. If your car is truly going to sit in one spot over the winter, you may want to ask them whether there is a possibility to simply suspend your coverages besides comprehensive, rather than paying for a special kind of coverage for storage. Just a thought...

I have 3 cars under my policy, and they don't give a **** if I drive the **** out of the itr - my insurance won't go up...
For storage insurance, they'll charge me ~$40/ month for the R.

Just come to expo 6, chris, and forget the R for now.
if its not the ideal deal for you, another one will come along. especially if you keep your eyes peeled (where did this saying come from? sounds painful) for ITR's looking for new homes....

Either way, it's a rediculous amount to pay per month for insurance in a car.

Don't think so, she called it a low mileage policy. Still full coverage for everything, with drivers ed and good grades, and liability lowered to 100,000 (I cringed when she said that).
I guess I'll just hold off on getting one. <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Chris N »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Just come to expo 6, chris, and forget the R for now. </TD></TR></TABLE>
Ok, I had fun rolling the Type **** anyways.
I am ready to put my CTR/ITR sway's on though.

That's the best advice anyone can give. Why don't you wait a few years before buying an R - your insurance will drop tremendously when you turn 21 and 25... Do yourself a favor and don't get in a bunch of debt at such a young age. If you have the cash up front, instead of spending it on something that will continue to depreciate, just invest it and it will grow nicely. Then when you're a little older, and have something else to drive every day, the type R will fit nicely into your lifestyle....
Over $300 / Month for insurance is ridiculus. If you're really hell bent on getting an R, buy the caged one and make it a track only car - don't bother with insurance...
Nick (who wishes someone was around to give him this advice years ago, before he went into huge debt for the ITR...)
