f22a4 vs f22a6
Ok about a year ago now i blew the engine in my 92 accord ex 4dr, 5spd. I haven't had time to screw with it, other than taking the engine out and finding out that i spun a rod bearing. I found an engine at a junkyard for it recently, out of a 91 ex. but the engine codes don't match up, the engine in mine is an f22a6, the one in the 91 ex i found is a f22a4. It also doesn't have a fuel rail on it, so i would have to take that from my car. My question is, What is different about this engine, and is there anything that's going to keep me from putting it in place of my a6?? Keep in mind i'm using my same ecu etc.
I looked it up on alldata, and it says
With Single Exhaust Manifold F22A1
With Dual Exhaust Manifold F22A4
With Dual Intake Manifold F22A6
but that doesn't help me a whole lot, from the very little i read about these engines, i saw that the a6 might have a better flowing head and a different ECU. And i know for sure my a6 had a dual exhaust manifold.(4-2-1 headers) I liked the power of my accord and don't want to downgrade that at all especially because i'll be looking into doing some performance stuff down the road.

theres not much diff in theses two engines. im sure u can use ur stock ecu on it. but the major differences is that the f22a4 doesnt have dual runner im, like the a6 does, and the head on the a6 flows a lot better than the a4. so what would do is take the a6 head, and intake manifold and swap them on the a4 engine, they will bolt right up. o, and another diff. is that the header on the a4 is the best header there is for f22a's so keep that header, and ull have urself a strong motor.
but u dont have to do all that if u dont want to, those were just a few suggestions. the a4 will bolt right up with no prob, other than the normal swap problems. but one thing i would def. do, is replace all those regular maintenance things, like the water pump, crank pulley, all belts, flush out all liquids and get better liquids, and all those other things that u should replace at high mileage.

i intended on most of those things, buy why crank pulley? i was thinking timing belt, but crank pulley wasn't on my list... especially because it is $100+.
And you say normal swap problems... such as?
it should be a direct replacement, no modding anything, right?
and what is so special about the a4 header?
Also, is it worth it to swap out the head and manifold for the dual intake runners? or will i not notice a difference?
also, is there a horsepower difference?

eh, well, who says u have to get OEM?lol, i was thinking some type of aftermarket, if they make them, i duno, i dont know much about pulleys, but a lighter one would def. help whip out few more ponies.
but yea, most, ppl dont do the crank pulley, it was just an idea, lol, a wierd one actuall.
well, just regualr engine swapping problems, like u lost something, or its hard to get in there, or little things.
im not sure exactly what it is about the a4 header, but its been proven that its the best header from the f22a's, and yes, there is a differences in power. the f22a6 overall has more power(140HP) and the a4 has 135hp. but umm, the dual runners do make a difference, and with that a4 header, they would work much better and ur engine would be better than a stock a6.
but like i said, if all ur worried about is swapping the a4, then it shouldnt be much of a problem unless u have never done a swap before. the engine will swap in with no modifications.

sounds good
i looked on edmunds, and it actually rates the 91 ex(f22a4) at 130 hp.. I'd rather not lose that extra 10 horsepower, so i think i'm gonna look around more for an a6.
But i was thinking of doing like a lighter flywheel while i was at it. i know a friend who got his h22 tranny LSDed, lighter flywheel, and somethin else, all done for him for $400, so it's something to look into.
This will actually be my first swap, so i'm a little worried about getting it back together, really the biggest problem is that i took it apart almost a year ago now...
but hey i took pictures so i should be good!

well dude, im telling u, if u swap over the intake manifold, and the head from the a6 to the a4, that engine will be stronger than a reguar a6, very slightly, but still stronger. all u would really have to buy is new gaskets, and maybe all the new parts like i said up in my other post. but yea, just do the head swap and the intake mani swap
he might be able to get deal on just the block and header and the yard can keep the head and what not. I would mildly port the head and clean up the header with a die grinder. Then match all the intake runners mill the head and put on a set of underdrive pullies. Tried and true ways to go faster.

yes, those are the best ways of going faster, and the great thing is, that u can get all that done for less than the price of i/h/e would be, and get TONS more power than i/h/e. then, if you install i/h/e after these mods, they will add a lot of power, since now the stock parts are restrictive due to the head work u did.
