What causes engine whine and whistle in car stereo systems??
Does anybody have any clues, i have a 2000 Honda Accord 4dr ex
with an infinity 4x111 watt amplifier. Any help would be graciously accepted thanks!!

When the batter cable and the power cables are run side by side in the car is what causes the engine whine is stereo, The two cables need to be run on seperate sides of the car. This was the case in my friends sentra se-r.
There a few things that can cause engine whine and a few cures. First and fore most make sure your amp is not mounted to any metal on your car. Mount it to a board or box. The screws make contact between amp and car and that causes whine. 2nd try turning your gains down, gains are not for volume there for signal matching. 3rd make sure your RCA's are not running parallel with any power wires, or just keep them away from all power wires in general, if you must cross a power wire cross at 90 degree angles. You may also want to try upgrading your RCA's. Have you ever seen that 3rd wire they run down the center of some RCA's? Well that's not for a remote turn on wire its acctualy to tie together your ground from your deck and amp, try doing that. 4th try moving your ground wire ground may not be good enough or you may be causing a ground loop. And if all else fails take your *** down to best buy and buy a ground loop isolator for about $20 and that should do the trick. You lose a little sound quality but hey its better than whine.

That said, the best way to install an amp in a car is 1- install amp as close to HU and batt. as is possible/practical, the shorter the power and RCAs are the better. 2- keep the power and RCAs away from each other, run the power down the batt. side of car. [in Honda/Acuras that's normally on the pass side, but not always] run the RCAs down the center of car, [under console] 3- when grounding the amp, keep the ground lead as short as possible, use the same or bigger gauge cable as the power cable, ground to the "floor-pan" of the car, use an existing bolt or stud, [there are lots of bolts, all over the car, that go into the floor-pan, seat bolts, seat belt bolts, and other assorted nuts and bolts that make direct contact with the floor-pan of the car, don't forget you need a clean surface to mount the ground to, free of both dirt and paint, [bare metal]
And as has been mentioned good RCAs will make a diff., and as a last resort a ground loop isolator, it's better to fix the problem that is causing the noise, then it is to put a band-aid on it.

okay one thing though, i can't use a ground loop isolator because i am using stock head unit and speaker level inputs, i am using 16guage ofc speaker wire made by Phillips and sold at wal-mart, and the engine whine is only coming from the driver's rear speaker nothing else, i will try rerunning the power wire as to not cross any inputs. and upgrading to 6gauge for ground wires. The speaker wires are run underneath the passenger seat, i guess if that doesn't work, i will rerun the speaker wires farther from the power wire, maybe the left side of the car.
My 8 gauge power wire is run along the right side underneath the moulding.
Anyone elses help would be greatly appreciated.
Also when do i get rid of my trial thing and become a registered user?

OIC, you could try this also, install a LOC, [speaker to RCA adpt.] up at the HU and run RCAs to the amp.

There are several things that can cause noise. Crutchfield has a good basic first check that you can try:
