SP Sport 5000 Asymmetrical
I just want to know if anybody used SP Sport 5000 Asymmetrical 215/50/R15 on their ITR. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...ace=0

I can't remember right now if the UK wheels are 15x6 or 15x7. I think they are probably 15x6 like the US wheels, right?
In that case, I only relate from personal experience that the tyres did feel just slightly too wide for the wheels. Everything always worked fine, but it just exacerbated the squishiness of the sidewalls.
I hasten to add, however, that they never let me down in any weather situation and were very good performers overall.
They're not as good as more modern compounds like the P Zero Nero M/S, but the newer compounds aren't available in as many 15" sizes. (None at all, in the case of the P Zero Nero.)

I would never, ever spend nearly $500 on a set of all-seasons for an R. Save yourself some money and get the 195/50/15s for $68 or 205/50/15 Kumho ASX ($66 each) or the new Dunlop SP Sport A2 Plus ($72 each).
I've been under the impression that 215/50-15 size tires usually rub.
Also, do you really need all-season tires? Are you planning to use them on snow and ice and frigid cold? If not, then good summer tires are probably a lot more suitable...

I was using them on a stock suspensioned ITR. Never had a problem.
The decision to try P Zero Nero MS, by the way, was the result of some comments of yours in another thread. With 1,000 miles on them, they are much, much quieter than the 512's. Nothing seems to have been sacrified in the handling.

But outside of winter conditions, all-season tires (which include the P Zero Nero M+S and the Falken Ziex 512) generally don't handle as well as summer tires. Don't get me wrong - all-season tires are a great compromise for someone who uses the same tires in snow and frigid cold as in warmer weather, and is willing to sacrifice some performance to do so. But for those who don't use the tires in snow and frigid cold, decent summer tires (even the inexpensive ones) will give better handling than all-season tires.

I should have explained a little better.
I think the Ziex 512 are very good handling tyres considering their all weather rating.
When I said that nothing was sacrificed in the handling, I meant that the P Zero Nero M/S handle at least as good as the tyres that were replaced.

I assume your UKM wheels are the same 15x6 size as our USM wheels. If so, then I think you can. Strangely, the Tire Rack website does not show a range of approved rim widths for this model and size of tire, but other makes/models of 215/50-15 tires show a range of approved rim widths of 6.0-7.5 inches, which means they can be mounted on 15x6 wheels.

They also recommend this size of tires at http://www.discounttiredirect....06777

did you happen to read the latest sport compact car article about tire sizes? the way i took it was like this: a wider tire with same 50 series "sidewall" as a narrower tire has a smaller sidewall. the calculation is really long and annoying and i dont feel like typing but id go with the 215.

Yes, they always did. I originally got them because it was the only readily available high speed all weather tyre that preserved the speedometer accuracy while also being a bigger tyre.
Everybody uses them, so you don't stop to think about it, but the 205-50-15 does throw off the speed reading by a small amount.

I've driven those tires (SP Sport 5000 - NonAsymmetrical) as OE tires on the mazda protege5 and they are garbage. The snow traction is almost as bad as summer only tires. Do not buy those tires, they suck!
Never knew that. I've probably gone through 4-5 sets of those tires and always went w/ the 205's - never thought to look for a 215...interesting.

If I understand what you're saying, that doesn't seem to make any sense.
Let's take an example: 215/50-15 and 205/50-15. You're saying that the 215 has a smaller sidewall? I don't think so. The sidewall on the 215/50-15 is (215 mm) * (.50) = 107.5 mm tall. The sidewall on the 205/50-15 is (205 mm) * (.50) = 102.5 mm tall.
Explain, please?

Had these tires on my car for roughly 60k miles...excellent. Way better than Sport A2, Falken Ziex...etc.
A little pricy, but considering the life I got out of them, I'm not complaining. They're quiet too.
...
The new ASX seems to be pretty good too though. That wasn't available at the time I purchased SP5000 (years ago).
