Gude, EF1.com, Ferrea, etc. PM Rocket and talk to him about EF1's line of valvetrain components for a D-series.

What do you want to do to your nonVTEC SOHC's head that will gain you anything?

i want to anything that i can do. I am fixing up this motor for 2 reasons. 1- i am on a budget, and 2- i think it will be kinda fun making a decent amount of hp out of a non-vtec motor.

curbow, i noticed your in the corps, im doc long, heh (: anyway, why dont you put a y8(ex) head in your block before you go looking for packages for a head that well, isnt worth it. swap the block and you'll get 20hp instantly, much better than trying to gain 2-3 with minor head upgrades, just my opinon thou.. every man his own. gl!

i might. i am just boosting first. i have a y7 and a y8 head laying around. the y8 is missing some important parts and that is why i was planning on just building the y7 head, and i was thinging it would be kinda fun to go non-vtec. but true about the 20 more hp

oh and the parts that are missing on it.... I dont know what they are called but i can try to explain. one thing is..... thier are 5 things that hold the valve terain in, they are numbered 1-5 i am missing one of them and the second thing i am missing is the pice that goes over everything on the head that holds everything down. (lol, not the valve cover)

I think that the Y7 head has better air flow than the y8.

Delta does regrinds.

Delta 272 should be a good cam for the y7. *shrug*

jg makes a cam for the y7 as well as a full head package. delta has regrinds as mentioned before as does gude (bad rep as far as cust service though). if you just want to get a lil boost in performance before you fo f/i than go with a tranny swap if you haven't done it already. look for a 92-95 ex/si tranny or a 96-00 ex tranny, best bang for buck mod if your still running the dx tranny.

i dunno, quite a few guys stick with the y7 tranny since the gears are so long... better for boost, apparently shown in their timeslips...

Im running a y7 with y8 head, vtec isnt wired because I plan on boosting... anyone know the compression of it without the vtec? or does the vtec even affect compression? (sorry for the noob question)

not really, shorter and closed gear ratios are better for boost, why do you think people ask for ex/si trannies?

didnt hella keep longer gears? im not sure if it was him, but a few of the guys on here kept the y7... less shifting can equal faster times, makes sense to me

btw, semper fi, my dad was in force recon
