Most of the time when you buy Vitara pistons they come with Hastings rings. So, that's what most people use...

i also read that d16 civic pistons are 95mm or something...and vitaras are 94.9mm...does that make much of a difference?

oh...lol i was 20mm off...i ment d16 pistons are 75mm in size and i heard vitara pistons were 74.8 or .9 mm...does it make much of a difference?

I got a b series so no personal experience but I've read that they make a lot of noise till they warm up and expand cause they do fit a little loose in the cylinder.

no, slap is not good. But for a lot of applications it really doesn't produce enough wear so that it's a serious problem. The sleeves might start to get weak after like 100K but for all intensive purposes it's just an annoying noise. From what I have heard and experienced (motor has 11K on it) the vitaras piston slap isn't a performance issue, so far.

Budget minded alternative to forged pistons. They are a stronger casting process of AL, have beefier ringlands and lower the compression for a lil margain of safety.
All those pluses... for under 150shipped... with rings.

They're cheap, low compression is nice when in a beginner setup where you need a nice margin of safety. They're not for everyone but motors like the 4g63 run cast low compression pistons and make 500hp on stock motors so, this isn't new, and it definitely works.

yeah i was thinking, vitara pistons into my d16z6 with eagle rods...i've seen similar setups and im just looking for around 250hp with a 14b turbo setup with 2.5" exhaust. see drag racing is not my thing...i like road but everybody needs power once in a while right? what does piston slap sound anyways?? i've never heard it before.

Compare $125-135 a set of these vs 350+ for a set of aftermarkets...which i've seen them(CP's) blow with less than 15 PSIs of boost..

i'll be dyno-ing the same day as my man splitime, and i'll be running my vitara piston/eagle rod bottom end by then, as long as the build finishes up nicely.
i'm shooting for 300 whp, but i'd be happy with 250.
my car is making around 200 whp now, stock d16a6. made 185/155 at 6.5 psi, and its at 8-9 psi now.
hopefully we can make some good numbers for vitara pistons that day.........i'm REALLY anxious.

FJT made 266whp IIRC, and that was all stock (besides pistons/rods) on a d16y7. It depends on the motor, but they really don't reduce the compression as much as people think. BTW, on a d16 you'll see less than 5hp decrease before spoolup when you lower the compression ~1 point. I think that's worth the safety margin you gain.
FWIW, there are a few 230-250 whp d16's with all stock components still holding, excellent tune was a key factor of course. I'm shooting for around 300hp after I do some tuning with a z6 & zex cam running a s-trim t3/t04b (essentially an oversized super60 t3). I plan on running 3 boost levels, stock actuator's 7lbs (using GM solenoids to bypass turboxs hpds), 12-15lbs on stage1 of turboxs, and 15-20psi on stage2 if I ever need it (after tuning).
btw I just measured a piston, from just below the oil ring (above the largest part of the skirt) I get 74.87mm with my digital caliper.

agreed. but you also cant compare the $126 shipped i got the vitaras for (i think) to 500 bucks. (obviously)
i WANT cp's...but it just doesnt make sense for my situation.
i'll be able to achieve more than the HP goals i have with the vitaras...so they are my choice....and, cast pistons are easy on the cylinder walls.

forged pistons are no more harder on cylinder walls than cast , its the size of the piston and the amount of slap which if anything , would hurt an engine , my cps slap like ****** hell when cold , but warm up nice and toasty they are fine.
