Ok honestly... i need opinions... please read this and tell me what you think...
ok guys and gals,
here's my delemma. i'm currently trying to build up my car (who the heck isn't?). what i'm caught at is this.
WOULD I RATHER HAVE A SOHC MOTOR THAT'S BUILT OR A DOHC MOTOR THAT'S STOCK?
ok by built sohc i mean i/h/e, y8 head swap, performance cam, upgraded valve train, cam gear, fpr, modded ecu, vafc, lightened flywheel, clutch, headwork and maybe higher compression pistons and stronger rods.
or would i rather have a stock b16a 1st gen? that would obviously have a i/h/e and clutch with a lighter flywheel if the stock one burned out but that would be it...
so what would you do?

Ill rather go for the SOHC cause I love cars that stick to the OG ****, I give more props to people with built SOHC because you see all the hard work that were put into the engine. The B16A will have more horsepower and give you better performance. So its your choice, just remember that D-series motors still have loads of potential, not as much as a B16 but its not like your going to race your car professionally
u contridicted ur self a liitle u say its better engine but not as good because the car didnt come with it. The car was suposed to come with it they are destined to be together honda made it that way in japan and we just go tdicked over.

I totally agree that the B16A would be the best choice for performance but all I said is that mini me swaps are great and that the Dseries engines are also very strong when modified. If it was me ill go with the B16A but I just love mini me swaps that will take a hybrid CRX
B18A.
Less money, more availability, more replacement parts, and just about as fast as a B16 on the street and then you can boost the he|l out of it later on.
The most expensive individual part of the B18A swap will be the mounts. I think my friend bought his motor for 350 and his trans for 200 and that was about a year ago. A complete drop out shouldn't cost more than $1000 and you'll have everything you might need. No parts hunting, no mixing and matching, everything will be there except the mounts. (By complete dropout, I mean the ECU and linkage. You have to specify that or they'll cut the linkage to get the motor out quicker).

thanks for all the replies guys...
i've often thought about the b18a but i'm afraid that it'll lead to another ls/vtec. that's what happened in my last car and it was fun... but it was also expensive.
anyways i've got a few options i need to look at.. thank you for your opinions... peace...

QUOTE] as fast not really StorminMatt will tel u that. He actually had both now he got rid of the b18 for a B20. The b18 has more torque witch makes it feel fast but in actuallity its not faster. I mean less HP and all why would it. it doesnt have as wide of a power band either. Thats why i said b16 in fact im getting a b16 in the next 2 weeks.

I would build a custom homemade turbo kit for your d-series.. play with it and see how you like it..
But I must say that any B-series engine is a better powerplant to start off with (when building an engine) but it will cost more, just like anything else.

i'm deff gonna stick with my d-series motor. i think that after my last car i'm not soo hooked on making tons of power. all i really need is like 130-145 hp to the wheels... that shouldn't be too hard to do with a dseries motor... it'll just take time and work. anyways... thanks for the info guys... peace...

I would go wit the stock B16 cuz it's stonger and it's stock u can build it yourself, that the point of fixing up your car right? Beside your never no what's worng wit the build SOhc motor.
Even though I'm going B16 or B18 I think that it would be cool to stick with the D-series and build it up.

Personnaly I'm all SOHC I like those little engine, that can give up a quite good number in both Torque and HP, it's impressive enough for the size they have.
building one is a very good Idea. I am into one presently. !! Very nice trip, funny.
keep up
