Default Stock & high-flow Cat. Converter Question

Hey Guys/Gals,
I recently bought a catalytic converter on Ebay for 40 dollars. It's suppose to be a high flow catalytic converter and tested for quality (consistence, fitment, safety).

I went to Strauss Discount Auto and they were going to charge me 302 dollars for a catalytic converter for my car. What's the difference and which one would be the best bet to go with. What do you guys/gals recommend. The one from Ebay is by JDM and it's certified by the IS09001 certificated company.

let me help.. first off jdm isn't a mfr, its a domesticization(?!) jdm is shorthand for japanesse domestic market. you live in new york so your car would be usdm, or united states domestic market. jdm is just a fad tag placed on everything nowadays to help it sale better, espically ebay. i'm not sure about the cat on ebay, im sure it helps.. but will it pass smog & emissions inspections? well, i doupt it. hope that helps.

not all cats on ebay are real cats. Make sure you buy a brand name if you buy it there. I avoid all products on ebay that stamp JDM on the title. Only about 0.1% of them really are JDM. I got a magnaflow hi-flow cat for $57 shipped from ebay.

Are you replacing a damaged cat?

I'll venture a guess and say the cat you bought on ebay for $40 is just a resonator/test pipe. It basically eliminates the cat altogther. I had a carsound cat and did not pass ny state emissions with it. (direct fit carsound cat)

I would personally check ebay for a used "OEM" cat and call it a day.

Since you live in NY, you will not pass emissions unless you know someone or pony up more money during the inspection.
